Rated 5 out of 5 by Works Great Installing the thermostat was not that hard to do but I did have to find a small screwdriver to fit the very small screws. My old thermostat would cycle on for about 2-3 minutes and turn off then come back on in about 8-10 minutes when it was under 50 degrees and made the house feel uncomfortable. This new thermostat heating cycles are set to stay on 12 minutes by default or you can change to 15 minute cycles for gas or oil 12 is just find for our house comfort It is pretty easy to program so I hope to safe on energy bills. Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Option but a few things to know I bought two of these, one for each zone of our heat pump system. They work fine. Both read initially quite high in temperature but settled down to a reasonable temperature within 15 minutes. I don't know why they have to read high to start with it goes away and doesn't come back. I had a little trouble with the wiring but that was because the old thermostat had two different labeling schemes for the wires. I needed to use the one labeled "heat pump" which seems obvious but..... I got it right on the second one and then fixed the first one. It did no permanent harm. The one thing I see wrong with these I don't think is really a quality issue, I think it is a lack of an outdoor air temperature sensor. One of my units wants to use the backup heat all the time. The other one never switches on the backup. If the first one was controlling the house, our bills would be bad. So I lied to it and set it up as if we had no backup heat. It is supposed to reach the teens here tonight so I will change the program when I get home if the second unit hasn't switched on the backup resistance heat. I'll go back to the "no backup heat" program when the outside air temperature comes back up closer to 30. I don't know how a thermostat like this that doesn't know outside air temperature is supposed to know when to use the resistance heat. But having these two units act so differently makes me wonder about that part of their program. That is my only complaint and for the money and without the additional sensor, I don't know how they would do this what I would consider "right". I can do a few button pushes occasionally. The "designed for 15 minute installation" is a joke. Plan on about an hour. It takes longer than 15 minutes to remove the old thermostat and label the wires. But it isn't hard. January 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Saved me hundreds of Dollars! Used this to replace an old and ailing t-stat on a Heat Pump w/Aux heat. Worked perfectly and solved all the issues I was having. Saved at least $250 in service calls. I love fixing stuff myself! January 8, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Can't tell time or temperature Had a Magic Stat programmable thermostat for 20 reliable years but replaced it with Honeywell's 5-1-1 Day Programmable when we remodeled because of the separate Sunday and Saturday options. Unfortunately the weekday feature couldn't tell time or temperature. Purchased 1 then exchanged it but returned the second as neither worked properly. The first was set to come on at 5:30 AM but would start at 4:15. The second one came on at 4:45. Evenings were no better - set for 6:00PM but would start anytime between 5:30 and 6:30. Both "return" settings were for 68 degrees but sometimes wouldn't shut off until 70 or 72. I thought Honeywell made good products - very disappointed. Single word summation - UNRELIABLE January 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Did the trick! I still had an old thermostat with a mercury switch. I tried replacing with another brand last year, but it wouldn't turn the propane fired furnace on. This one was super easy to install and it handles the A/C as well as the propane furnace. Great price, too. The programming was super easy - did it without reading the instructions (every man's dreams). January 31, 2012
