Questions & Answers

What is the water flow rate?

If set to the highest humidity level, what is the water usage in 24 hours?
Asked by: StansDIY
Turn a faucet on as little as you can for a steady flow. That's about it. When I was on city water I saw no difference in my bill. That makes sense as the unit only uses water when the furnace fan is running, not at all in the summer and none when the hunidistat setting has been reached. Taking a wild guess, maybe a gallon or so every 24 hrs? It's not much. The feed is just a 1/4" tube.

How do I know if this humidifier is compatible with my furnace and do you recommend having a professional install it?

Asked by: jenb
If you're not comfortable with cutting holes in your ductwork or making water tight plumbing connections then you probably want a pro to do this. If you're pretty good with tools and have some experience with HVAC then go ahead. It's not rocket science, but needs to be done exactly according to the instructions. I've built houses before and this took me a long afternoon.

Do you need to already have a humidistat in the house? or do you need to purchase one for this to work? Or does it have it's own sensor in it to tell it when to turn on and off?
Asked by: Angela
It has a sensor that connects to the return air to measure the humidity in the air. You can set it to the desired humidity. I included a picture of mine so you can see humidity adjustment switch. It is the white dial on the return vent on the right side I have a humidistat in my home but I don't use it. I just have adjusted the setting to where it feels comfortable in the house. It does not take long to notice the difference in the home.

Can this unit be turned around that the intake is on the left side. I have a gas pipe that will not allow this configuration.
Asked by: Poudrekeg
No it can not. The intake is only on the right side. I believe you can put the unit on the return air though. I don't think it has to go onto the furnace. I have included a picture of mine. I believe you can switch the humidifier and the return air hose and it still works the same.

The static has been noticeably reduced in our home. The installation was of the humidifier was not very complicated. I did watch a few youtube videos while researching this particular humidifier so I had a good idea of what I was needing to do. I would measure the surrounding area of where you would like to mount the unit to make sure it will fit. Installation took about an hour and a half. The humidifier has several settings, being in the midwest where it very dry during the winter we keep ours set to the ON position so it runs every time the furnace turns on. It is absolutly helping with static, dry skin and nose bleeds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great do-it-yourself product The product was really easy to install with everything you need, obviously except tools, in the box. Make sure to read the box carefully before you purchase to make sure you have the clearance needed for installation. I am very handy and the entire job took about two hours to complete due to the directions being very easy to follow. I truly believe that anyone could install this product. I live in Michigan and when the temperature drops, the heat comes on and the house dries out. Once having the humidifier installed, there was a clear difference in my house by the next morning.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I got a nearly empty box! Nearly all parts missing! I don't normally give bad reviews but I am really shocked. The box does not appear to have been opened. It appears to be factory packed but nearly everything is missing and of course Home Depot closed early today. Here is a list of missing parts. 1) Thermostat wire 2) Feed water tubing 3) Saddle Valve assembly 4) Transformer 5) Accessory Bag 6) Humidifier pad Basically I got an empty plastic shell , a paper mounting template, and some flexiblend ducting. If you buy one of these items I strongly recommend opening it and checking parts before you leave the store. Quality control appears to be non existent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps the whole house comfortable This was a replacement for the non-water saving model, and was installed after replacing the entire HVAC system. The old model used an exorbitant amount of water and still couldn't keep the humidity level up. This model only runs a trickle of water and keeps the humidity at a steady 40 percent. Installation was very simple (easier than the first, since it used the same hole cut in the air duct). I can't understand why Honeywell (and Home Depot) still carry two models when this one works great and the other hardly works at all. This water saving version is definitely the one to buy whether you care about your water bill or not.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product but wastes water unless you install a valce to reduce water flow. I selected this model as it claims 30% less water usage. The install went well and a youtube video shows install instructions which I preferred over the book. Make sure you have a 3/4 inch sheet metal bit to start your cuts and installing the sensor. I step down drill bit works well. I read a review about the water usage so I also installed a simple needle valve in the water feed line by the unit and this really reduced water waste. I like this unit over one the has a resevoir type as there is zero standing water which avoids mold growth. Take extra time an ensure its perfectly level as the water runs to the middle of the screen then down each side os if its not level you will waste more water. I think the claimed 30% reduction comes from the unit shutting off the water intermittingly while the furnace is blowing to reduce waste but I am not sure. It came with a 1/2 ID drain line which shows you how much water they allowed for on the discharge side. I am happy with the unit but do wish it came with a digital reading of the current humidity in the return air side so you know how well its working.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought the 240 but this is the same exact unit, just larger. Do not buy this humidifier. In fa... I bought the 240 but this is the same exact unit, just larger. Do not buy this humidifier. In fact, I wouldn't even buy any Honeywell products. Their customer service is atrocious. I purchased one, discovered parts were missing, returned it to the store to find all the others were missing parts but took one home anyway. I then ran around town buying replacement parts. Only when I set to work did I find that the missing parts were hidden within the humidifier itself; wish they would have mentioned that. So I cut a slew of holes in my ductwork, install this second one only to have the solenoid not function after four hours of work. I had to remove the entire thing and exchange it for another one at the store. After installing the third one, the solenoid did work but it would not stay open to let the water through. Honeywell agreed to pay for an HVAC contractor to come take a look. When the contractor arrived he first told me it should not be attached to the supply duct, which is where the directions tell you to install it. He then said the pressure switch (which is supposed to detect moving air then activate the solenoid allowing water to move through) would never work in any scenario. He said the bypass system is poorly designed and in fact, the whole system is poorly designed. Great. He ended up having to rewire the pressure switch to bypass it and wire the humidifier to the furnace. The more I studied the humidifier while the guy was there, the more I realized how poorly designed it is, how it would never work properly and do the job it's intended to do. But does it work? Does it provide humidity? Nope, not really. In fact, it has made no difference at all. Not satisfied, I contacted Honeywell again who gave me the run around for two more weeks before I finally spoke to someone who essentially blamed me for being smart enough to install one but too dumb to find all the information I needed. He said this humidifier is only expected to create 20-28% humidity at best. Why bother? That's what my house is at anyway. I asked him where that information was as I would have liked to have known that beforehand; he stated we don't like to flood customers with too much information or they won't buy the product and take the risk. He blamed me, blamed the store employees, the weather, every other variable in the book except his own product. Easy excuse for them -- it's everything else but our product. In the end, the only way to resolve this is either keep the thing, let it waste a ton of water and do nothing or return it and turn my ductwork into the Bride of Frankenstein by patching a million holes with bits of sheet metal. Did he offer anything? Nope, just a lame apology.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK unit, but I hate the waste of water Unit is fine. I bought a separate humidistat to check the humidity in the living room before and after installation. Humidity went from 10% to an average of 35% (max was 41%) so unit definitely is helping (although not sure if it should get any higher). Installation was straight forward with no surprises (if you are handy at all, you can do this). My only disappointment is that when working it drips water across a filter directly from the water source. Whatever water does not evaporate, goes down the drain (and a lot goes down the drain). If I did it again, I would get a unit that had a reservoir of water. The water pumped across the filter comes from the reservoir, and the water source is only used when the reservoir gets low (NOTE: This unit does NOT have this design feature).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly Installation is time consuming but not difficult. Installed on the return side, connected to hot water, drained with a pump. My target moisture levels in a 3,000sqf home were achieved just a few days after startup.
