Answer:
If the existing transformer is in good condition You need not buy a new one. Just replace the Door bell. It will take only 5 minutes to do that.

Answer:
The RCW250 and 251 Series of door chimes can be powered either by 4 "C" size batteries OR an 16v, 10 va transformer. When wired with the transformer, they can utilize your existing push button. Most existing transformers are 24V, which is higher than what the RCW25 and RCW251 chimes are rated for.
Honeywell does offer a transformer which does provide our hard wired thermostats with the rated voltage. It Read More

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loud and clear! I ordered this particular doorbell because I am hard of hearing and it has an adjustable volume control, plus several tunes to choose from. My husband wired it up and really had no problem doing so, except that the wires are small and a bit hard to work with. The doorbell works perfectly and I am very pleased with it. I never miss hearing the doorbell when it rings anymore! June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Door Bell I checked nearly 4 Door chime. This is the best of my choice. The sound is very loud, when watching TV programs I can hear the Bell sound. I fixed it by myself in 5 minutes. I am very happy now. June 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by WIRE WIRELESS DOORBELL Loud and clear sound . Wire terminals are very small, difficult for me . Wire diagram should be clearer easier to navigate . Found it easy to wire when I read some of the questions and answers on remarks . March 8, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quite a nice unit I used mine in a wired configuration to replace an old failing standard door chime. The multiple sounds and up to three doorbells are nice features. This unit is head and shoulders above the cheap $15 type units. My main minor negatives are: 1. the screw terminals are extremely tiny and requires a miniature screwdriver to connect all the stiff wires in a very tight spot, once mounted on the wall above your head. Not very easy to connect the wires. Bigger terminals would have made things so much easier. 2. The unit lights up when a chime tune goes off for each zone, but you can't tell which zone the light is lighting for with the cover on. The light is useful if you are hard of hearing or deaf, but it's useless for identifying which zone was activated. 3. If you need very high volume which this unit is capable of, the electronic curcuitry and small speaker distorts noticeably. For normal volume levels, that is not a problem at all. January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great door chime The directions were a little confusing for a 90 yr old, but I finally figured it out. It would have been nice if the screws attaching the wires were larger, too. However it has plenty of volume (which is adjustable), and a nice variety of chimes. I am very pleased with it. I will certainly know when someone pushes the door bell button. April 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great doorbell The doorbell has a good build quality to it. Attractive looking on the wall. Appears to be about a 1 second delay between pushing the button and hearing the chime. Otherwise, will suit my purposes wonderfully. May 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great sound quality Bought this doorbell after we returned a $20 doorbell stocked at the local store that sounded cheap and we could barely hear it. This doorbell has great sound/options. Would recommend. May 5, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Door Chime I've been happy with this doorbell chime. You have to purchase the door bell(s) separately. Nice volume adjustment. Your choice of sounds and tunes. The chime comes with an instruction booklet that explains installation. September 24, 2014
