Customer Questions & Answers

will this thermostat automatically switch between heat and cooling?

I have a four wire system, the current old thermostat has to be manually switched between heat/cool. Will this one just do it automatically to keep the desired temp? or do I need to get the lesser model that has the manual switch?
Asked by: clipclop
Yes, you can program the thermostat to switch between heating and cooling to maintain a desired temperature range. To avoid possible compressor damage, do not use Auto Changeover if the outside temperature drops below 50 ºF (10 ºC).

DO YOU HAVE TO RUN ON BATTERIES OR DOES IT HOOK UP LIKE MURCURY THERMOSTATS WITH 4 WIRES

Asked by: Anonymous
A single AAA battery (not included) is needed to operate the lighted display however the thermostat will still operate at the desired setting (if the battery is dead) using the 4 wires as referenced in the question. The battery is not needed to hold the setting in the event of a power outage (according to the instructions).

require a transformer?

I live in a highrise with an older heat/cooling system. My current thermostat is 4 wires, line voltage, and I have to manually flip the switch from heat to cool. A couple of people in my building have replaced with this exact thermostat, but I'm not sure what sort of transformer or voltage step-down is necessary in addition to the thermostat since this runs on low voltage.
Asked by: clipclop
This thermostat is powered off batteries, no additional transformer is needed to power the thermostat.

I have a heat pump. My current thermostat has a battery. I am going to turn off the heat circuit breakers. Do I have to remove the battery from my current one. I burnt out my old one because I never turned off any of the power and the wires touched. It didn't have a battery. My 5 year old thermostat is programmable. It is a pain in the neck. No idea why they make them so complicated to program.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install, easy to use. The main reason I purchased a new thermostat was to get ride of the programmable one we had. The reason I picked this particular one is because of the large easy to read display. It is easy to read to change the temperature, the numbers are huge. The only problem I had was that the words for the "cool", "heat" and "off" are written so small you can't read them. This is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. The back-light is brighter than I expected, when you push one of the buttons it lights up bright and the contrast is great so you can see it real easy, better than I expected. Push the up button and the temp goes up, push the down and it goes down, easy.
