Answer:
The cover for the Honeywell RTH1100 is the wide section surrounding the display. To remove it grasp the top and the bottom between your thumb and forefinger and gently pull from the bottom. That should allow you access the control buttons for the thermostat as well the cover for the battery compartment.

Hi RS, this thermostat cover hangs on the top and snaps on the bottom. Lift up from the bottom and the cover should come off. The top snaps off to install batteries.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Should work longer than a year and a half Purchased this item at HD about three years ago. I bought it because of the clean design and easy to read display. It worked for about a year and a half, and then stopped working. I replaced it with an identical unit, I figured that I should give it another try. The current one worked for about a year and a half, and stopped working a week ago during the coldest weather we have had in years. I think that a thermostat should work for longer than a year and a half. (My original thermostat had worked for decades.) I will never buy this brand again. December 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sweet If the programmable thermostats with all the buttons and settings for this that and everything are confusing for you than don't feel dumb. This guy is perfect if you just want to set it and forget it, so to speak. Easy controls like heat and auto. Set the temp you want the home to maintain all the time and walk away. Change your mind later just use the up and down arrows to change it. Blue illuminated display is nice too. Install is childs play. January 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Large Numerals Easy to see, day or night, and very easy to use. I've had this model for 16 months and it has worked great with older hvac unit. I replaced an older mercury style thermostat and I have a packaged unit type hvac with gas heat and central air, I like the fact that only the up and down buttons for the temperature are located on the front. Very easy for me to adjust temperature and visitors if they are hot or cold. The other controls are neatly concealed beneath the cover. Those other controls are the switch to control the heat/ac/off and the switch for the fan auto/on. Also like the light button, it makes large digital numbers very easy to see at night, even when your only half awake. Temperatures swings are no longer a problem with this new thermostat. Very pleased with the styling of this model and I did see a drop in my utility bills. I would definitely buy this model again. March 31, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great features easy to install. great features. It has a light and numbers are so easy to read! Great price and shipping was fantasic! February 25, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by work for awhile then... This is the second unit I have purchased. They both started out working fine, but after some time they would not set back. Difficult to program. I'm a retired electrician, and if I have trouble with it so will you. Buy a more expensive model the first time. you will eventually anyway. March 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Product works well for the most part but had one that did not upon installation. So far the product has worked fine and is simple to use. These are installed in a motel so I will have further input in a year. January 16, 2013
