Customer Questions & Answers

how do I install batteries how many & what type??????Can't find how to open thermostat???HELP

Asked by: electricallychallenged
Pull very hard on the bottom lip of the unit to separate the front plate from the mounted wall plate. You will see the batteries mounted inside. You might have to replace the wall anchors with expanding type after pulling the plates apart as it takes quite a bit of pulling before it separates and if the existing wall anchors are the basic push in type they might come loose. 2 AA cells.

I wanted to replace one of those "programmable" versions that the previous owner had installed. Although I am very well able to navigate digital media, and technology. I DON'T want or need to have a "personal relationship" with every one of the devices in my home. I have far too many better things to do with my life! Simplify as much as possible is my motto. I had a model similar to this one in my previous home and loved it. This one is so easy to use even a child can set it.

Also has install instructions on the internet. Read all instructions carefully before purchase, before install and during install. Don't have to be an AC Technician but some low voltage wiring experience is helpful.

The product, i.e. the hardware, seems to be working fine, but the installation wiring instructions are very poor. I had to have my ac tech come to the house to fix the wiring. The hardware, i.e. the thermostat, seems to work as advertised, but the installation instructions are poor. First, you are instructed to press the fan button, but the button are not labelled on the front panel, nor do the photos in the instruction directions provide a simple little arrow illustrating the location of the "fan button". Fortunately, the panel only has three buttons, so trial and error can get you through this problem. The biggest problem is that the wiring directions are at best confusing. On page 7 it directs you to connect the "L" wire to the L terminal. On my system this creates a short circuit and blows a fuse in the air handler. I had to have my repair man come to the house and replace the fuse. If I had used diagram on Page 6, it would have worked fine. Unfortunately, no hint is provided in as to which diagram to use.

This replaced a Pro Tech 520, the display went blank and in able to make it work again. Bought the Honeywell rth3100c. wired up ok and worked as it should for about an hour and then the screen went blank, same as my old Pro Tech. Batteries are not required for either one and has always worked fine. After much frustration, I put batteries in the 30 minutes later the ac came on. Temp was set at 75 degrees and once it hit 75 degrees, it turned itself off. Thought it would turn off at 74? 10 minutes later ac started again and both temperatures read 75 degrees? Set room temp at 76 degrees and waiting for home temp to rise to see what happens at 76 degrees ? I have no clue what is goin on. Confused and dumb founded here. c

The only problem is with a 90 year old who can see the room temperature but cannot see the set temperature without a magnifying glass.. I wish Honeywell made a unit that both room and set temperatures had a larger display.
