The thermostat is very sleek. iPhone like and looks great but it's just not for me. The installation was going well - wired, mounted, installed the app on my android. I powered it up and could not get it to connect to my wireless network. Contacted Honeywell and was told it didn't like android devices and to try it on my iPad.. .. I did and it worked but was not straightforward. I had to manually do a direct wifi connection and from there it connects to the network. Way more complicated than others I have installed.
When running it looks nice. It has a home temperature and also an away temperature. It can detect if you are near home and adjusts. It does not have a schedule so if you are gone and others are home it is not a good choice for you. Overall not what I want in a thermostat as I am an android user.

In the world of the Internet of Things, a connected home allows for seamless automation, benefiting the home owner in both time and cost savings. This thermostat includes features of which allow for optimal energy savings for your home.
Installation of the this thermostat can go one of two ways, depending on the current wiring at your current thermostat, and if the HomeKit feature is wanted to be used. The home kit requires an active always on power connection which typically isn't connected in many homes. If home kit is not to be installed, installation is as simple as uninstalling the old thermostat, noting the wiring and reconnecting the wiring to Lyric per directions. This option can be done in less that 20 minutes. The second option if the active power connection wire is installed or not can go for an hour. In my case I wanted to use the home kit feature and there were extra unused wires currently installed. Reading up on my Air Handling Unit I was able to connect the required extra wire. This can be a lot more work for a DIY person, and wouldn't recommend if you aren't comfortable with doing such work. Overall I got the thermostat up and running, with the home kit feature.
After connecting, you are prompted to install the Lyric App on your phone and connect to the thermostats installation wifi network. This process was a bit lengthy and required information about the type of HVAC system such as electric or gas one or two stage cycle. After this one time process I was up and running. The app overall seams to be a bit buggy and doesn't allows communicate with the thermostat, i.e. Ill set the temp using the app and nothing happens. The use of the home kit which allows ios users to use siri to set the temperature behaves similar to the app. Only sometimes is it actually able to find the thermostat. Usually I am told the thermostat cannot be found. Its been hit or miss.
The functionality of the thermostat is a bit awkward. You are able to rotate the outside ring to set temp but not able to use it to scroll through the menus. The thermostat overall looks great and built to last, very modern looking. The led lighting red or blue is a nice touch as your set the temp.

Install was pretty straightforward; in my case only the cooling system is controlled by the thermostat, so there were only 3 wires. At first the Lyric was giving a message that it was not receiving power. It turned out that the red power wire was not connected even though I had pushed it in as far as I thought it could go. After it was powered up, the rest of the setup is done through the lyric app. It took a bit longer than I would've liked but it was easy enough. After the setup process was done, I wanted to test out the controls on the app. For some reason the Lyric gave a message saying it would turn the system on in 8 minutes. Not sure why it needed the time, there was no explanation in the app or the booklet but I waited. It was about 12 minutes later when the system finally kicked on. I have the geofencing set up so that it stays at my set temperature when I'm home and it chooses an appropriate temperature when I leave. That is much more efficient than having set 'home' and 'away' times on my previous thermostat.
The temperature reading on the display is accurate and you have a couple of options that you can operate on the unit itself: a weather button which will give you the forecast for about a day out; an 'away' button that lets you tell the unit how long you'll be gone, and obviously you can manually set the temp by turning the outer ring.
So far, everything seems to be working just fine. A couple of times the display on the Lyric indicated that it was not connected to wifi but I opened the app on my phone and it was working again. I would recommend this for anyone who is upgrading option to a smart home, although I think it is a bit pricey for what it is.

Installation was simple. Just download the app to your phone and begin the installation process. There's a companion instruction guide that walks you through the installation process. Everything is included for the installation, including an option faceplate, wall anchors and screws, and a battery. The wi-fi thermostat has lots of features. The app walks you through all of the features offered and allows you to customize your settings to meet your needs. My husband and I both installed the app on our phones and have played with the features offered. It does take some getting used to, so be sure to go through the tutorial in the app to make sure you're taking advantage of all the features offered. My favorite features is the motion activated display. To save energy, it displays as you walk past and is dark the rest of the time. It makes for a much cleaner look, as well.

Wow this is awesome. You can control your thermostat from anywhere. It has several neat settings. It can shut down when you get certain distance away from home. It does take knowledge of wiring ac thermostats but the instructions are clear. You also have to know your wifi network name and password to connect to it. I used my iPhone and it set up very easy. If you don't know wiring it should be easy for your ac tech to install when the do your ac cleaning or maintenance. You have to know how to download apps onto your phone. The software setup was very easy for me but I have a lot of app experience. If you download the app it walks you through the setup. I found it very easy. The readout is very easy to see as you can tell from pictures. It dims automatically. I love it.

The geofencing feature knows when you leave and arrive home so you don't have to keep setting away temperatures. This is useful when you do not have a set schedule that you could program to a thermostat. Even if you go to an area with no cell signal, as long as you can connect to a building's wifi, the thermostat will then register you as away until you return home.
You can fine tune the radius around your house at which it will switch between home and away so that if you run to the store really quickly, it won't register you as away. Likewise you can set it at a distance to begin warming or cooling your house so that it is at the target temperature when you arrive home from work. You can also set it to give you alerts to your home when one of your registered thermostat users arrives or leaves home.
The geofencing has been working reliably for me even when I only have a wifi connection and no cell signal at work.
You will need a reliable wireless connection in your home. Setting it up, it connected fine to the Time Warner cable provided modems (Arris and Motorola brand.) It did NOT connect to a an extended network we had set up from a TP-Link Router. If you have that brand of router, you might not be able to connect properly.

This thermostat offers so many functions while being extremely easy to use, it's truly fantastic! Installation was what I would describe as "medium," meaning that it took a little longer to install than previous thermostats because the wiring was a little different than our existing one (and the one before it). However, we called the customer service number and the guy was fantastic and helped us sort it out right away with no problem.
Here's where the fabulousness starts! First of all, it has a sleek, round design, which looks nice but we were worried that it wouldn't cover the rectangle-shaped hole/mark on the wall from the old one. Not to worry!...it came with a back plate (see photos) that covers it right up and looks nice. To turn the temperature up or down (manually), you just turn the dial. It even has a sensor so that when you walk up to it, it lights up, eliminating the need to turn on lights or press buttons to "wake it up."
The main reason we wanted this thermostat is because it's for a second home. We've always had issues, particularly in the spring and fall, where we're not sure if we should leave it on heat or air-conditioning when we're away...we don't want the house to get colder than 55 degrees or hotter than 79. (This is to prevent pipes freezing in winter, or too much humidity building up in summer.) This thermostat eliminates that problem! You can set it so that it "knows" to turn on the heat or a/c, and set a temperature within four degrees of one another. For our use, we were easily able to set it to turn on the heat if it gets to be 55 or turn on the a/c if it gets to be 79.
What I mean by "within four degrees of one another" is that, let's say you were home. You could, if you wanted, set it to a low of 68 and a high of 72. If it got to be more than 72, the a/c would turn on, and if it got to be less than 68, the heat would turn on.
Like many thermostats, you are also able to set programs such as "away" or "sleeping." The difference with this one is that it is SO much easier to set up using the app than it ever was using the programming on our old, "regular" thermostat.
However, the functionality of this thing doesn't stop here! It took us under a minute to get the app set up on our smartphones. In the Lyric app, you can remotely turn the temperature to whatever you want. So, for example, let's say it's a hot summer day and the house is currently at 79 degrees (which is what we set it at when we'll be out of town.) We can easily, using the app, turn it down to 70 degrees so the house is already nice and cool when we arrive. Likewise, we can warm it up ahead of time when coming in the winter.
It was very easy to set up "shortcuts" in the app, too. Such as a shortcut for when we're out of town (low of 55, high of 79), and one for when we're there (low of 67, high of 72.) Also, if we were ever to forget to set the temperature before leaving, it's now no problem at all, because we can do it from the app!
The app even tells you what the humidity is in the house, which could be helpful in many situations (such as deciding if you want to put on your humidifier when the house gets very dry in winter, or choose a cooler temperature to keep humidity down in summer.)
I couldn't be happier with this thermostat! Highly, highly recommended!

Being in North Florida the Lyric makes common since perfect. The round shape is more pleasing to the eye like an art piece instead just a plain function. Downloading the app is simple as is following the easy to read instruction for the installation and all the features.
I turned off the circuit breakers to my heat pump. Then called a contractor to do the wiring. (the wiring to a/c and heating aren’t standardize colors). Though paying attention to him, I think I could have done it myself, because of the lettering underneath each wire. The Honeywell tech support are very knowledgeable and friendly in their responses to my questions. The website is nicely written with I think every answer you may have on how to install your Lyric Wi-Fi Thermostat and how to use the many features.
My favorite feature in addition to the savings I will have on my electric bill. Is the Geofence. You map your Geofence around your home/street wherever you want to. As you pass through the fence, your Lyric picks up your signal creating a comfortable home when you arrive. If you don’t want the Geofence you just click it off. You can program your thermostat to your comfort levels by making “short cuts” you add yourself. Naming them if you want your own title. Honeywell uses an icon of the Sun for your heater and a snowflake for the air conditioning. The thermostat even adjust your cooling accounting the humidity as a factor to keep your temperature at a comfortable level. I’m curious about this here in Florida. The lyric even lets you save a reminder to change your filter. Along with that, it “learns your heating and cooling cycle times to deliver just the right temperature, right when you want it.” I like the fact that the Lyric lets you select to change itself over to cooling when the temperature changes. Like the "Daylight savings time". So, once you done your install, set up the features on your smart phone. You can sit back and almost forget it, until its time for a filter change and servicing of the whole unit.
