Customer Questions & Answers

the Honeywell A8184g 4009 on my furnace continues to not function. My furnace is controlled by a programmable thermostat .

When the thermostat calls for heat the furnace does not come on. The r eset button on the top of the unit needs to be reset and the furnace fires and will do so over and over except when the furnace has been turned down for the night. Come morning the furnace does not fire up and the reset button on the A8184g relay needs to be reset. This happen over and over, the relay has been changed several times but the problem still exists. Furnace technicians have not solved the problem and sevceral have tried. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
Asked by: allan
can u tell if u have reliable AC power to the house? A short duration power failure while the furnace is running will trip out the relay. I installed a TDR (Time delay relay) in the thermostat line on mine. u can get one about $10.00 NO ONE seems to know about this issue including the furnace MFG.

Protecto Relay is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works okay I bought this out of necessity as I couldn't find another to replace this one. Bought an old house with an old furnace but this unit looked new. It gave out on us a few months later. New one works fine, while it's working.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality product, but defective soldering I had two of these fail on same furnace in 4 years. Solder joint failure on board at relay switching contacts. Factory should make sure relay prongs are clean before soldering and then make sure full solder pad is soldered - not just partially as I have seen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from this control has a high failure rate because of poor assembly this control that replaced the previous mechanical version has a high failure. It may last years or months. buy a lottery ticket at the same time. though this is the most common control found and is in stock usually. I wish hd would sell the most reliable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not last... Continued circuit board failure problems Honeywell needs to address this (circuit board failure) problem. It can cause a major plumbing damage if it fails in sub freezing weather. Unfortunately this may be the only standard replacement.
