It is not totally quiet, but I have mine in my bedroom and my husband and I have no problem sleeping. We leave it running all night. Is sounds like a whisper-quiet fan. It does blow cool air; you can direct it away from you if this is unwanted. It also will swivel (oscelate) or remain stationary.

I only notice the sound if it's on high. But the low and medium are really easy to tune out. Even on high, I don't notice the sound if my ceiling fan is also on because the fan is louder.

I have this in my living room. Usually use it on low. It's barely audible (like a fan on low). It may be even quieter than my fan. This is for a med/large room. They do make similar ones for bedrooms (smaller rooms). I sometimes leave my smaller bedroom ones on low all night - it does not keep me awake. No bright lights to bother me either.

The noise level is very low. It is also comparable to a noise cancelling machine. I have slept with it in the room and it's very comfortable.

This unit comes with washable, re-useable filters. No need to replace them. If there is an event that requires you to get new filters, check with the customer service counter at Home Depot. They are very good about getting special orders delivered to the store. You could also call the manufacturer.

This model allows you to reuse the filters. You take them out and wash them and reuse them over and over.... which is great as it gets expensive with other types where you have to buy new filters all the time. One of the main reasons I picked this model.

Answer:
The odor in my house was every bit as strong as cigarette smoke. Thus, even though I do not smoke anymore, I would trust this unit to clean cigarette smoke. The affected area was my living room and upstairs loft. Even with the high ceilings in my house, this unit performed very well. I started out down stairs. But when I took it upstairs to the loft, I noticed it worked in both areas.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So Glad I got the Quietclean Tower Air Purifier This product is easy to setup and since we don't have pets we just make sure to rinse the filter out and our place remains almost dust free. Before purchasing the Quietclean Air Purifier, within a week's time our furniture would be covered in dust. Now in two weeks time of the having this unit the dust particles are barely noticeable. Quite (we only run it on low); with great results. I hope we have a long partnership with this unit. Thanks Honeywell! I would love to test a smaller unit for your bedrooms. May 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet, and seems to work well. I use this in my walk-out basement family room, and it seems to keep the air pristine. May 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Satisfactory purchase I think the purifier has helped with dust and allergens. It has an unusual smell when first turned on but don't notice it much after it runs for a while. Runs very quiet. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Product available It was a snap - take it out of the box and use it. We have 2 now. One is in the living room and the other in one of the bedrooms. They are very effective for people with allergies. I shopped around and the permanent filter made it the most desirable product. Great buy May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I LOVE THIS THING! Had this one for about a month and honestly think I'm going to buy a second one soon! I live in Georgia so we have LOTS of pollen (and allergies). Bought this because a room air purifier was recommended by my doctor. The first week using this in the bedroom was the first week I didn't wake myself by coughing or sneezing! **As a side note, it blows cool air, so taking it from room to room means I've already saved on a/c cost. So I'll probably have to figure out something else when winter swings back around April 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Perpetual Plastic Smell This Air Purifier must need broken in for many many hours to get rid of the horrible plastic smell! It seems to be slightly less as time goes on, but for someone who has asthma, it is a real disappointment, because you don't want to really use it because it makes the air smell worst. I'm sorry I got it and the price it's a total wast of money! It's an air purifier and it smells horrible. April 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a difference this makes! Took right out of the box, plugged her in, and felt a change almost immediately. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love how efficient and quiet it is! The air smells so fresh. Really like having washable filters.i April 26, 2016
