Is there a direct wire Winter Watchman?

Asked by: Anonymous
There is no Winter Watchman that can be wired directly. You have to plug the watchman into an electrical outlet and then plug the lamp into the top of the Watchman.

Can you plug in a electric heater to come on automatically by plugging heater into the winter watchman ?

Asked by: todd
Hello Todd! I do apologize, but unfortunately, the Winter Watchman is designed to turn on an Incandescent lamp load only when temperatures in your home are falling. This product is not designed to turn on a portable heating system. Thank you.

Winter Watchman Temperature Signal is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter Watchman My winter watchman works great I have 3 that are in buildings that people can drive by and monitor. If the heat goes out it turns on a light to let them know before they freeze up.

It seems to last for just one season which is 5 months. For the past 5 years I have tried to use this product and each time after 2 months the unit no longer functions properly. It just keeps turning the light on even when the house is 60 degrees and the dial is set for 40 degrees. Looking for better product getting tired of this. The customer service at Home Depot does not even seem to be helpful. They have a 90 day return policy and it's several months past the 90 days when the unit starts not working properly. No one seems to want to help with this product .

It looks like it was designed in 1960 and functions that way also. The dial is basically an estimate, and I have had numerous false alarms causing the plumber to come and charge for nothing. Not worth buying.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Abysmal, but what else is there? I've bought, at least, five of these. They are very undependable. My experience with this one was no different. I tested it in a 60 degree portion of the house by setting it at 50 degrees. After about 12 hours the light came on (why 12 hours later?). So, I set it to 40 degrees, and the light didn't come on. What does that mean... who knows. Would it come on at 40 degrees... who knows. Would it ever come on... who knows. Would it come on after 10 days after sitting in the same room at the same temperature (like the last one did)... who knows. The problem is that Home Depot sells NOTHING else! I'd spend twice the amount for something that WORKED, but they aren't offered.
