Answer:
No... everything you need is in the box except the batteries for the chime. Mount the button outside. Mount the chime inside wherever you want it and it works. You do have to do a one time setup for paring the button to the chime unit, but it's really easy and described finger movement by finger movement in the instructions.

My own unit is new, so I don't know what the expected life would be.

Since there is not a picture of the door button, nor is one referenced in the online material, I'm not sure if I need to order a separate door button as well. And, if so, is the door button the same model and features as the one you can buy separately? Also, does the door button mount with screws or 2-sided tape; what options are available? Thank you for your help.

Yes, it does come with a door button. It is off-white with a light grey button in the middle, so not the same sleek grey and black as door chime. It has both two screws and double-sided, sturdy tape options for installing. It is about 2.5 inches by 1 inch.

The door button that comes in the box is a white, stylish unit that looks like largish Lego block (without the nubs). It has the brand ('Honeywell') printed on it so you hang it the right end up! The door button that comes in the box is a white, stylish unit that looks like largish Lego block (without the nubs). It has the brand ('Honeywell') printed on it so you hang it the right end up! The button is pretty large, so it can be easily pushed and has an LED light that lets you know you pushed 'enough' to send a signal to the chime. You can purchase other buttons separately. I'd bet you'd be able to paint at least the sides of the button to match your wall. But, since everyone has a doorbell, it's pretty invisible as it is.
It mounts with either screws or with double-sided tape (both supplied in the box!). I used the screws because you have to lever the unit off the mounting base to replace the batteries and I don't know how long or well the tape would hold, given seasonal weather effects and age. I tested the amount of effort needed to lever off the unit and it took a fair amount of twisting with the right sized screwdriver to do. That's great for weatherproofness, but tough on the tape!
If you do go with the screws (which I would recommend), use a small level to make sure the button mount is drilled vertically true, because you have to get it right the first time. Good luck! Read Less
