Controls work as advertised. I;m having a bit of trouble syncing and controlling through the Z-wave but I think that's more a function of the control app

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MREB A waste of time and money
I bought two of these units for an upstairs and downstairs unit of my house. An A/C technician installed both of them. The upstairs unit never worked. Apparently, the unit was located too far from the router and could not obtain connectivity.
The second unit- located less than 30 feet from the router- worked for approximately one year, but suddenly stopped working. As this was connected through my security system, I first started with them. They looked at the unit and felt it was a Honeywell issue.
I have now spent countless hours dealing with Honeywell's horrible customer service and ineffective technical support. It appears that my 'upgraded' Z wave system is useless and I now have an overpriced programmable thermostat.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BG Great Thermostat!
Easy to install, very easy to program. Love the touch screen and the green glow it gives off. Bought this unit because of its z wave capabilities and the touch screen. Great unit!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Kdog Great T-Stat, Horrible customer service and Z-wave functions
I bought this as a replacement for my 14 year old 9000 series Honey stat that I have loved and worked flawlessly over the years. I purchased this specifically for the z-wave radio, to integrate into my home automation system, SmartThings.
The thermostat itself is very simple to operate and while you do need the manual to setup the advanced features under the initial programming (all of the features are simply numbers, so you need to use the manual to identify the settings options), it works as expected and very similar to my previous 9000 stat. It does not have the option to add an outdoor temperature sensor as previous versions of the 9000 had, bummer. The stat has many options to allow for just about any kind of setup or model furnace/AC you can imagine. The display can be set to be always illuminated and gets brighter when you touch it- a nice feature to at-a-glance check settings and temp.
The bad news.. the Z-wave radio is notorious for having stack communication issues. The unit links to the hub easily, but within a short time (in my case sometimes less than an hour), the message "communication lost" appears on the screen. I wish I had done more research on this model before I purchased it, because googling "Honeywell communication lost" brings up page after page of forums from a multitude of hub vendors about this very issue.
I tried three different units (returning each one claiming a defect) and each and every one caused the exact same problem on not only Smart Things, but MiCasaVerde and also Wink (I have been experimenting with home automation so I have several different systems to play with). I did notice that the stat seems to work better in a zwave environment with very few devices. I believe the problem is with the stats ability to receive and pass zwave commands properly, and when it gets confused, it simply drops off the zwave grid. In order to reset the stat, you must physically remove it from the wall and then wait a few minutes and attach it again. Don't bother though, because you will only get the same problem to occur at some point very soon in the future.
Obviously, this is a major deal breaker for this product, or why else would you even bother to purchase a Z-Wave enabled stat? Contacting Honeywell, that is an even bigger communication problem, as they couldn't care less about you unless you are a professional contractor. Fine, my neighbor (who also helped me install the stat) IS a licensed, professional HVAC contractor, and they gave him just as much of a run around as I did- reluctantly suggesting that it might not be compatible with z-wave systems unless they were Honeywell... so there you have it folks. Steer clear, your mileage may vary, but do yourself a favor and research this before going through the hassles of installing and wasting time trying to get this to work.

Purchased to work with my Z Wave system even though it was not listed on the recommended and tested products with my system. It synced right up to the module which was two stories up. No complaints.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dave A rock-solid programmable unit...plus Z-wave!
I wanted to upgrade our thermostat after installing a Z-wave home automation network, but didn't want to have to hassle with wi-fi, network security, & multiple control apps. Since our last thermostat was also a Honeywell programmable, this model seemed like the best solution. Installation was a 'no-brainer' (<15 mins) thanks to the included 'add-a-wire' device (a 'common' wire is required). Adding into our Z-wave network was also a snap and I LOVE the ability to remotely monitor or set the temperature while we are away from home (or even just upstairs). Have been running for 2+ months and this unit has performed flawlessly- I would not hesitate to recommend this unit.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by scubabs USe currently with z-wave, works great
This is a pretty good thermostat. I had mine professionally installed because it is hooked up to a heat pump here in the south.
Hooked up to z-wave you can manage high/low temperatures via a computer. You can set schedules with it also. You can download apps for smartphones and access the same features.
If you don't have z-wave, you can still set high/low temperatures and schedules. It has four program modes and each mode allows you to program for each day.
Wife loves it because we can change the temperature from our phone in bed!
Great product and it is simple. There are fancier ones on the market but this is economical.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by warmandcozy Works with home security system
I bought this product to work with my Vivint Sky home security system. It works seamlessly except Vivint didn't have the Emergency Heat setting. I can set my home temperature and schedule remotely from my smart phone or laptop except for that one setting. It was rather complicated to install and used all 5 wires to the heat pump (the previous Honeywell thermostat used only three of the 5 and included an outside temperature reading, which this one does not). I paid about $200 for the HVAC expert to install this z-wave thermostat.
