Depending on what I think will work well, I use simple green, or vinegar and water (mostly water some vinegar), both clean the floor very well and my machines have lasted on average of 3 years, which is good for me considering I have wall to wall tile floors in my downstairs (big house).

The owners manual only states that you should not use "solvent based cleaning concentrates" in your machine. I recommend using the hoover products that are made for this floor cleaner if you want best results. You can "click" on the photo to make it better and bigger to see.

Hoover makes a Tile & Gout solution as well as a Multi-Floor detergent that work nicely. A bottle of the Multi-Floor detergent came with my Floormate. The directions definitely say to not use cleaning concentrates that contain solvent based ingredients. I sometimes just spot spray visible dirt with some Mr Clean or any spray cleaner I have available and just use warm water in the Floormate.

IMO, you would definitely want to vacuum up the hair before using the Wash setting. The machine does have a Vacuum setting designed for use before the Wash setting. However, I would recommend instead using a conventional vacuum first if there is a lot of pet hair b/c otherwise you will end up having to clean the hair out of the Hoover's filter at the end of the job--yuck!

I have several dogs and five grandchildren. So keeping the floors clean is not only a challenge but a must. I like the floormate because I can use it instead of two or three different pieces of equipment.
It picks up the dirt, cleans and dries the floor. The best part is you are not leaving dirty water on the floors and they are dry immediately, so no trying to keep people and pets off until they dry.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 474 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Enough for My Needs I bought the Spinscrub for my tiled kitchen and dining area floors; the tile is textured and impossible to clean just by mopping, requiring me to periodically get on my knees with a scrub brush. The Spinscrub was easy to assemble and to operate. It's lightweight and easy to maneuver - which also means it doesn't scrub the textures and suck up the dirty water in two passes like a pro-model - but it does a decent job of it in four or five passes, just be patient with it. It works best when I don't allow the floor to get too dirty, which is less likely now that I don't have to get on my knees. I'd like it to have larger clean & dirty water reservoirs but for the price, this one is good enough! May 31, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by On-line buyers beware Clearly an open box item. No floor wipes wipes in the box, and it doesn't put water on the floor unless you hold the trigger. Plan on returning. Bad form home depot. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cleaner This thing works great! I realized that mopping can just spread the dirt and grime in rather than extract it like this machine does. I am very satisfied with the purchase. July 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 3rd time is the charm? This is my 3rd Hoover Floormate. The previous 2 lasted about 3 years before giving out. (The first completely lost suction, with the second one the motor burned out.) I love the multifunction and motorized convenience of this device but just wished it held up better. I live in a 700 sq ft place with hard surface floors and clean with it twice a month. This device really should be cleaned out after every use to avoid build up of icky stuff on the parts besides the dirty water cup. Over the years, each model features design improvements, and it's efficiency and convenience make me continue to purchase. Not good at cleaning grout lines. April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this Floormate This is our second purchase of this hard floor cleaner! Our old one cracked it's plastic parts but the motor and scrubbers never failed. We just decided to replace it with the updated model and Home Depot had the best price. we have purchased many things from "HD" and never regret our choices July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Must have for uneven tile I am disabled. Several pinched nerves and problems including atrophied muscles so at first it felt too heavy but once i got used to it i am able to use Every day. I used to mop 8x or more trying to clean after five dogs and family. My floors are finally clean! I looooove this machine! I tell everyone about it. I bought this older model and i have no regrets. I believe it was refurbished or returned because of the packaging but i dont care. I got it for $80 On my doorstep and have had 0 problems. It sucks up stuff i dont see. Just make sure you clean the brushes out and the head when needed. I just use warm water. Im always shocked at what it picks up. I did inder my stove and fridge. Its almost fun to use and no more smelly mop, broom, scrub brush and dust pan. May 30, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Floor mate Like the product but think the brush bristles should be longer to get better scrubbing action. The tank is very small. June 24, 2016
