I think you would have to elaborate more on the type of flooring you have. If it is laminate that looks like tiles, then absolutely it needs sealed! You can use a liquid sealer on it after it is installed that helps keep out water between the 'tiles'. I found that out the hard way when the house I bought from my aunt have supposedly ceramic tiles on the kitchen floor, only to find out later she had been told wrong and they were laminate. She never had them sealed and now there are cracks and buckling in it where the water has gone through and damaged it. Just like all flooring, even wood, you need to actually look at what the manufacturer says needs done, not just what your contractor says. If you have a bad contractor, they may cut corners and telly you wrong. Read Less

Hi Marty! The Max Extract dispenses pressurized water onto your floor. Before using, double check your floors for any worn or separated areas where water can leak into. If you do find any at all, consult the flooring manufacturer before using this product. Hope this helps!

Has Hoover done anything to address the leakage problems that so many of the reviews (almost all of them) have talked about.

Hi Rick, we’ve looked at why a tank may begin leaking. Most commonly, using non-Hoover cleaning solutions, especially those that have bleach, or storing the tank with solution still inside are key causes for the leaks we’ve seen. Our engineers have made some changes to the tank, and all Max Extract 77s sold today include them. That should lessen the likelihood of any leaking even if some solution is left in the tank every once in a while. But please never use bleach! That could damage not only the cleaner, but carpets as well.
If you're referring to the mentions of the machine leaking out of the lower back end, we've found that profuse drainage can occur when the tank valve or worn down by using anything other than our detergents. If
You shouldn't have to worry about leaking on your Max Extract 77. Under normal use, your Max Extract should work beautifully.. If you have any more questions or concerns, feel free to email me direct at Ian.McCormick@ttifloorcare.com. Thanks! Read Less

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stupid me, I should have read the reviews 40 square feet into the first use and the brushes stopped rotating. AHHHHH! Turns out the dial that sets the depth of the spin brushes broke. The piece moves an arm that tells the machine to spin the brushes because the foot release is off and the machine is in use. Because the bar could no longer move forward the brushes would never spin again. Seriously frustrating. This cleaner looked so good on paper and made for a great comparison. My Bissell lasted 8 years and this was even loaning it to every relative who ever moved out of an apartment. My Hover... 20 minutes. Time lost trying to fix the problem via phone calls, and emails just to stand in line for my $$$ back. January 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good purchase Machine is easy to use and it does a very good job of cleaning your carpet. May 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Purchase It is extremely tough on soiled and stained carpet. Especially the cleaning solution that came with it as a sample. Just ordered another 64 oz. bottle. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent carpet cleaner Did a great job cleaning our carpet. The power attachment did a really great job on the stairs. Never got the stairs this clean with our old Hoover cleaner. March 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Used it only once .... I bought this machine a year ago and used it about three months after it was delivered. for fall/winter cleaning of my carpets in a small apartment. This fall, when I attempted to use it just a second time it turned on but the pump (?) that sent the water and detergent to the scrubbers failed to work. I was so disappointed as the one andonly time this machine worked it did a fabulous job ! October 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very disappointed The machine worked the first time I used it but now it will not dispense clean water. I am extremely disappointed that I wasted my money on this machine. We had an earlier model of the max extract and loved it. October 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer beware! I bought this cleaner 2 years ago, couple weeks ago I took it out to freshen up my carpet per my every 3 month schedule. Right in the middle of the job the motor shut off. I let it rest for a few hours and then it just made a whining noise. A week later and that's still all it will do. This is ridiculous that a cleaner for this amount of money gives out just as the warranty is up. My family has used Hoover products since I was a kid so I thought nothing of spending what this item costs thinking it was a sound purchase. I don't have money to throw away on a costly cleaner every 2 years! Obviously the products of 40 years ago were of a better quality compared to what they make today. Buyer beware unless you have money to throw away... September 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy this piece of junk! Bought it last month and decided to use it a few days ago. It cleaned my son's room very good on the first tryout. But a week later it wouldn't spray any cleaner and the more I tried to cleaned the more fustrated I got. October 7, 2016
