Yo the question moderator. Buddy again answered this machine uses warm or cold water to create steam for cleaning. This machine does not create any steam. It sprays whatever temperature you put into the water holding tank

Answer:
No it does not heat the water. Use 120 to 140deg tapwater. If you use water too. Hot, the water tubes expand and leak or in my case it popped off the upholstery connector and created a fountain of clean water into the air that the motor sucked in and now my unit won't pressurize the upholstery water and the motor needs to be greased

I usually vinegar and water. I've also used a biological odor cleaner due to having a dog. I've also used Tide, All, and Hoover cleaner. Vinegar and water is my favorite... sprinkle some baking soda on top to draw the moisture and any excess smell out, let dry over night... then vacuum. Carpet is fluffy and clean when I'm done. I do this for a house with 3 kids and a dog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Hoover Steanvac does the job. But the older model was better. I purchased my first Hoover SteamVac in 2002 and I’m so glad I did. It has worked perfectly for the past 14 years. I see the proof every time I empty the dirty water bucket and see the black water. So when it finally died this year, I immediately purchased a new Hoover SteamVac, without even considering any other makes or models. As such, I can easily compare the old and new models. The overall size, weight and design haven’t changed significantly in 14 years, and the new one is just as loud as the old one, maybe just a bit less. They’ve made some small improvements, but in some respects I think the old design was better. First the improvements. The new one blows air down onto the carpet to help dry it. There’s also a “clean surge” button that dispenses extra cleaning solution for tough stains. This is an unnecessary gimmick since all you really need to do is squeeze the regular trigger an extra time. This model also came with a powered hand-held upholstery attachment. Nice. Other design changes include the dirty water bucket. The old design had a built-in handle/locking mechanism. The new one has no carrying handle so you now need both hands to remove it and carry it. (Not nice.) Next, the hose. It used to be sturdier and permanently attached. Now it lighter and totally removable. This is good and bad. I removed the hose and all the attachments -- since I rarely use them --- to reduce the overall weight. That’s good. But to use the attachments, you now have a multi-step process to attach the hose properly. That’s not so good. Next is performance. The Hoover SteamVac is very easy to use. The SpinScrub brushes do a great job fluffing up the carpet. However I do think the old model did a better job of drying the carpet. The new one leaves the carpet noticeably wetter even with multiple “dry passes”. To me, this means it doesn’t suck up as much dirty water. The most important thing is does it clean my carpets? The proof comes when I empty the dirty water bucket and see the black water. I hope this one lasts another 14 years! But I did like the old model better. I have a few suggestions. First, always vacuum your carpet thoroughly before using the SteamVac. Second, let your carpet dry completely before walking on it. This will minimize footprints. (In fact, I usually use the carpet cleaner at night right before going to bed.) Third, always rinse out the dirty water bucket after each and every use, otherwise it’ll seriously smell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Paying a lot for a carpet cleaning machine, does not necessarily mean you will get the best carpe... Paying a lot for a carpet cleaning machine, does not necessarily mean you will get the best carpet cleaning. Sure there are more expensive machines on the market, but this one is a winner in my book. This is my second Hoover SteamVac SpinScrub Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge. We had the other one for six years and used it many, many times. Each time, our carpeting looks brand new when finished. The Clean Surge function has come in handy several times. It adds a bit more cleaning solution where needed as you gently guide the SteamVac along. Going back over the area without adding water lets the suction get any left over water, and the heating element continues to dry the carpeting as you go. One of the things I really like about this Hoover carpet cleaner is the heating element. The carpet is almost dry by the time one finishes the cleaning. I'm able to rearrange my furniture into the rooms very quickly. I like the smaller tanks on this machine. It allows for easy filling and emptying. I know many say they want larger tanks, but, these are just right. I also like the easy of cleaning this machine once I am finished with the carpet cleaning. The disassemble is easy and I usually let the tanks drain after cleaning in the bathtub before reassembling the machine to put away. Don't forget to take the brushes out for a good rinse as well. There are a couple of tabs you squeeze to release the brushes and they come right out. Same ease for putting them back in. Just make sure you line up which end goes where. Special place for the little indicator that spins around. There is also a thin wand used to clean anything out of the clear plastic on the front of the machine. It slides from the bottom up and can grab most fibers/hair/lint picked up and not emptied in the tank. If it is really dirty, just a few screws on the bottom can easily remove the cover for cleaning. Just be sure the sides are once again sealed when reinstalling it. All of the attachments are easy to use and I put the machine together myself when it arrived with just a screwdriver in about five minutes. The price was right, it's not heavy to carry, easy to use, easy to clean and the carpets look beautiful when finished. For those who may have had problems with no suction. The tanks are not on the machine correctly. Just turn the machine off, and take the tanks out and reinstall them. They must be in the proper position to work correctly. It's a great little machine for a great little price. Easy to use and easy on the pocketbook.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frequent repairs I actually bought two of these. The first was irreparable after two years and several repairs all separate issues; water regulator, brushes wouldn't rotate, leaking tank, and and the main motor was replaced. Now again, two years later with the second one and I've already had to replace the attachment motor, fix brushes not rotating, (again) and now it's leaking (again) due to regulator malfunction. In done. Not worth the money for 2 years of interrupted use. Plus it's not actually "steamer", it's a carpet cleaner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for a carpet cleaner I had previously owned one of these carpet cleaners, and am very happy with my new one. I decided to purchase one because I had some traffic stains in my carpets that I was hoping to improve. This cleaner did exactly that! The carpets look much better. I am very please with the clean surge feature-it gives a little boost to those high traffic areas. You will be surprised at the amount of dirt that is in your carpets. Mine feel much softer now and I notices a lot less dust in the house. The cleaner was able to extract most of the water, so I there was not too much drying time. I recommend using a fan to help circulate the air and hasten drying. The cleaner is easy to use. If you have pets or kids in your household I'd definitely own one of these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a work horse. I used this on my car seats to get out coffee spills. The water looked like a latte. Be sure to pretreat for the best results. I used the product that came with the machine. But the ZEP carpet products are excellent! I was able to remove stains with this that I was unable to do in previous attempts with a rented machine. Used this product on living rooms, bedrooms, halls and stairs. You just can't realize the difference after cleaning. I spent hours/days. I tried to clean a different room each day. For the car, I would have spent at least $50 at the car wash because of all the time took getting the seats clean. The attachments worked great. You are really able to scrub with them. I didn't have any problems with this. It worked just fine right out of the box. WELL WORTH THE PRICE!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finally We have a lot of carpeting in our home, including in our finished basement. This is our third machine in in 8 years. This one is by far the best. I am very impressed especially with how well it sucks up the water. The carpets dry quickly. Only 4 stars bc using the stair and brush attachments are a little cumbersome to use.
