Can you turn the brush off?

This item looks very similar to a Eureka Vacuum that I love and hate. I have a variety of floors I need to keep clean. With very few carpeted areas, I have mostly Wood, and Tile floors. The Eureka works almost as good as my huge Shop Vac when I'm using the hose and attachments, but when I use it as an upright vacuum, the roller brush-head tends to hurl anything it runs across out the back side of the machine, and across the room.

I'm usually barefooted in the house, and I can feel the pieces of sand, cookie crumbs, etc, actually flying out of the bottom of the machine, and blasting across the tops of my feet, and across my ankles, as the machine hurls those little bits across the room. I can clean one area, then move across the room and clean another, then look back to see all the stuff that was once in front of me, now behind me in the area I had previously cleaned.

I actually have resorted to using the hose, and hand tools to clean the floors now, because even though it's a lot more work, and I spend too much time bent over working with a tiny little hand tool, I can pick up everything in one pass, rather than hurling sand, cornflakes, and bits of whatever across the room into previously cleaned areas.

That's why we bought this item; the brush has a separate motor, so when it's off it's just like using a shop vac. No more stuff flying around.

I think it is about 14 feet. I use it in a rather small urban DC apartment, and have not needed a longer cord. Cord is good quality and rewinds on the pegs easily - no kinks. Add to the cord length the hose length and you can vac a ceiling fixture or high vent without needing to lift the vac off the floor (and I have 9 foot ceilings)

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 700 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Burning smell with minimal usage I bought this product from Home Depot on September 4, 2015. I have a one bedroom apartment and the vacuum cleaner is used approx. twice a month. It worked fine till two weeks ago when burning smell was detected. Extremely disappointed esp. with very minimal usage. Brushroll is always kept clean and before each vaccum session, I would cut any tangled hair etc using scissors so there won't be any obstruction for the brushroll. In spite of taking all this precaution, it is extremely disappointing to witness such poor quality from a company that claims to be a leader in their appliances. SUMMARY: Hoover Vacuum Cleaner doesn't even last one year. June 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Meh Actually found it for 1/2 the cost at another store. Pretty to look at but does not really work all that great. Only thing that really works is the hose when getting into the corners. Would not recommend this product, as there are plenty of other vacuums for less money that work better. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Absolutely Love It! I purchased the Windtunnel Air Steerable Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner as it was a brand name vacuum and it had all of the featuresI wanted. It was on sale, so it was a definite value. I love the air steerable feature! The vacuum turns and twists in all directions and you barely have to guide it as it seems to practically go by itself. I liked it so much that I purchased a second vacuum for another one of our offices. June 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed I've owned this vacuum cleaner less than a year and the motor for the brush in the floor unit stopped working. July 8, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very powerful but not good for area rugs It worked beautifully on hardwood floor but stuck to acrylic 8x10 area rug and wouldn't move. Returning July 6, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Taking it back This is a powerful vacuum, but the strength it requires to push it on carpet is extreme. There does not appear to be a height adjustment for the roller brush, and there is no mention of one in the owner's manual. So I found myself fighting all that suction every inch of the way. Also, the roller kept turning off for no apparent reason. I could restart it, but it was increasingly annoying. This is probably a great product for flat surfaces, but that doesn't work for me! June 8, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value It is really easy to push around although the maneuvering takes a little bit to get used to. Good suction. Does carpets and other floors well. December 22, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Brush stopped working after a month I WAS loving the vacuum because it was really picking up stuff and was lightweight but after about a month the brush would only work half the time and then just stopped altogether. The issue isn't due to a broken belt and yes, I know how to turn the brush on/off. June 3, 2016
