This replaced a 15 year old Wind Tunnel self propelled. I chose this non-self propelled model as it is lighter weight for hauling between my two levels. It is light-weight and easy to push on my ~ 0.5" pile carpets (and on the next to lowest carpet pile setting!). But be aware, this is not for plush carpets - the manual says to not use the roller brush for carpets with a pile over 1". It appears to do a good job sucking up the dirt. I like how easy it is to simply step on a large push button to go between my carpet and hardwood floors. The hose is longer than my prior model so the upright does not tip over easily when using the hose and attachment. The crevice tool has a fairly large round opening - not as good as other crevice tools - so I'll just save the one from my old vacuum. I don't have pets and my upholstery is mostly leather, so have not used the powered hand tool. "Assembly required" means you need a Phillips head screwdriver and the ability to intuitively figure out how to assemble it as the directions were pretty vague. But there is only one way to put it together.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Unlucky I made a poor choice
I bought this vacuum cleaner 5 months ago. I have vacuumed 3 rooms in our house once a week for those 5 months. This week the beater bar (brush) froze up and needed replacing. This is not covered under the 2-year warranty so I had to pay for that along with a belt that drives it. I'm not happy having to do this.

Very nice sweeper for the money. Not to heavy, long hose and cord. Cleans very well.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by PLC Lacks 3 position handle
I had a 20 year old Hoover that I replaced. I do not like the fact that the handle has only 2 positions. Upright storage and the other that does not lock at an intermediate level. Thus when you go to vacuum area rugs you can not go over the edge and then rock back and pull back. If you try this the handle goes to the floor. The old Hoover had 3 positions. Upright, intermediate and fully extended to the floor. I chatted with Hoover on line. They said that is the way it is. No other vacuums on the market have 3 position handles. That is a bunch of bull. I will keep it. The price was ok. Home Depot free and fast delivery within 5 days of my order was Awesome! This is a Hoover issue and not part of the specs. The hose is longer than my old one. I do like the new Bag and ease of changing it. No more paper bags. No need to push the opening of the bag over the exhaust opening. Another odd thing, on the left side there is a filter and the air blows out of the machine and I mean really blows hard. It will blow newspapers away. Again this is normal. It is called Final Filter assists in the filtration process to return clean air to the room. Must be a government control thing I guess. This is a Bagged vacuum. I did not want the bagless.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steve Consumer Reports was right.
This vacuum came highly rated by Consumer Reports for its ability to pick up pet hair. I have 3 cats, and plenty of hair to be picked up. Attachments are great, and the fact that is is a bagged vacuum, dust emissions are ZERO. Quiet, easy to push, long power cord. Excellent buy for the money, and replacement parts are easily found.

Vacuum relatively light given the very good suction. Easy to use. Given the length of the cord, wish it had a self rewinding cord feature

Vac is very loud in comparison to previous Hoover uprights owned. It may actually exceed safety decibal levels.
The brush may not have enough give in that it actually bounces across the carpet on a low setting.
