Hot/Cold Seat Removal Tool Kit for Temptrol Shower Systems is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from perfectly ok for an easy job, going to make a mess if seats are bound by scale/time/etc First I want to mention I bought this tool not knowing what it was supposed to be. Only finding one on the shelf, I purchased it, only to find when I went to do the job that I got a package containing only the larger tool when there should have been 2 tools. I love the HD return policies, but more time needs to be spent on items before being re-shelved, and a super deterrent to ever buying anything opened or with a packaging defect because they dont. I set the tool in the seat, tapped lightly, pushed inward, and turned til it broke free. What broke free however wasn't the seat as much as what the tool needed to bite to work. Or as so many others have put it, it just stripped the brass of the seal. if you buy this and the seal doesn't turn out with minimal effort, proceed further only with extreme caution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tools work The tools fit the seats ok but I had a problem getting out the hot water seat. the little slots that fit the tools would break because the seat was to tight in the housing. I was able to get the cold water seat out which was the problem so I was able to fix the leak. I need to come up with a different way to remove the hot water seat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from tool is a piece of square stock with a hole drilled in it. this is more of a problem with the actual hot valve seat, there is not enough engagement to remove hot valve seat. broached notches of valve seat edges get rounded off if valve seat is stuck, requiring filing new notches to engage. Unfortunately really no other way to remove valve seats, so if you have a stuck valve seat plan on extra work, tool won't get the job done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked as advertised After reading some other reviews of this product, I was very apprehensive about starting the job. When I finally got to the point of doing it, I was pleasantly surprised. I put the cold removel tool in, gave it a little tap, put my cresant wrench on, and with just a little effort removed it. One down. Proceeded the same with the hot removel tool. Put in the new seats easily. Whole job only took about 10 minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from have never seen a generic tool that removes temptrol seats as far as i know these are unique tools for temptrol valves. my generic seat removal tools did not fit. after seating the tool firmly into the seat i tapped it very gently with a small hammer about a dozen times while applying torque (counter-clockwise) and the seats finally broke loose. i used plumbing grease when re-installing seats.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seat Removal Tool needed tooling to work The larger tool fit into the seat but the smaller one didn't. I had to file it down to get it to engage the smaller seat. The tool's metal is extremely soft so if you don't engage it into the seat far enough and then twist, you're going to gouge the tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well A very simple tool specialized for removing seats in one type of shower valve. No special features. It is a bit pricey but works fine.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Limited use due to valve design the torque required to remove the parts using this tooling requires a lot of torque. Holding the valve body of an installed unit to repair in place was not possible.
