killing happens because...

how do roaches etc get killed by it but mites do not? Bed bugs? I thought maybe the powder would cut and dehydrate mites and other insects in addition to cock roaches... Thank You

Is it safe to be at the house while the product is around my house

Asked by: Vcr
Yes, it's fine to be around the powder once it has been applied, but we do crecommend avoiding application in food-handling areas. Where possible, brush powder into cracks and crevices so children and pets can't access it.

Will this work on silverfish, too? I've recently been noticing silverfish on my ceiling and along the ceiling line. I've had pest control out twice, but I still see those creepy crawlers. No idea where they're coming from, as the home is spotless and clean. Will putting this down along the baseboards help control silverfish...even if they're found at ceiling level?

MaxAttrax 1 lb. Roach Killing Powder with Boric Acid is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so great Didn't work for me against small black ants that were coming into my kitchen. I'm right outside of Philly. They completely ignored the stuff. So what I did to make it work, I put some sugar in a small dish of hot water to dissolve it. I added a little corn syrup too. I then added the MaxAttrax powder to the sugar water until it was a thick paste similar to mashed potatoes. I would say at least 90% was powder. I put the dish on my counter and in less than an hour the ants swarmed it. I let them have at it for 3 days. Day 4, no more ants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roach free now Moved into an apartment in a different state and realized it came with a few unwanted guests. Oh heck no! Last place I had I never had roaches. So remembering the roach pruff days when I was younger I decided to Google search and came across this. I went to HD to buy. Surprised how large the bottle is for such a cheap price. Anywho, what did I have to lose. sprinkled it in cabinets, drawers, under sinks, behind fridge and dishwasher, along baselines in kitchen and bathroom. Started seeing dead and darn near dead roaches for 3 weeks afterwards. It's now been a good two weeks, not a roach in sight. And this is with my husband leaving dirty dishes in the sink. still no roaches. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great on carpenter ants I discovered some Carpenter Ants too close for comfort around my house. As soon as I put this MaxAttrax Powder down, they started dying right before my eyes. I actually felt bad for them - they work so hard but I sure do love my house and cannot have them chewing it up. I highly recommend this as an alternative to the liquid sprays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Potent This stuff kills every kind of little bug that gets on your nerves and in your living space. Make a line with the powder and they either don't cross it or if they get it on them they die. I mixed a little of the powder with some water and squirted it all around the outside of my apartment mainly where the walls and ground met. I poured a line of just the powder outside in front of my door and patio door. Two and a half years now and I don't have ants, waterbugs, centipeds, spiders or roaches. But be careful of your animals getting into it, this stuff is VERY potent and will also kill plants that come in contact with it, which my Apt. manager hasn't noticed yet! This stuff also HAS NO ODOR.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get rid of the Sprays! Due to a new, dirty neighbor, I suddenly found myself with a bug problem - they were entering from plumbing penetrations in a shared wall. I have used sprays in the past - around doors and windows to keep ants and crickets out. These sprays with "long lasting barriers" actually work pretty good for that purpose. However, for the new invaders, they were pretty much useless, even after several applications. I decided to try this HotShot powder. Just 2 days after applying HotShot, the number of visible bugs had decreased by 95% and those that *were* seen were definitely "under the influence" and lethargic. 5 days after the application, ZERO bugs were seen. Please note that this product does not Kill On Contact - it sticks to the legs and antennae of the critters and is ingested when they clean themselves and others. It is also carried back to thier nests for consumption by others in the group. So, you have to give it a little time to take effect. While the application of the powder can be a bit messy, it is highly effective. Care must be taken not to leave piles of the powder - you just want a fine "dusting" of the areas. Instead of cutting the tip of the application nozzle off as I did, I would try using a pin to create a small hole in the tip. Unlike the liquid sprays that lose their effectiveness over time, this stuff will stay active as long as it stays dry. Cleanup is easy for any over-application - just wipe down the affected surface with a damp cloth. You may want to wear a dust mask when applying this product. Unless your pets have a habit of snorting under your counters and cabinets, this stuff is pet friendly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great I honestly wasn't seeing any roaches, I was only seeing droppings that I knew came from roaches. Every time I cleaned up the droppings, I would see the droppings again the next day in the same area. I've tried everything from bombs, gel, baits, vibrating wall plugs, to the beeping noise products to get rid of the roaches. I wish I would've found boric acid powder much sooner. It would have saved a lot of time & money. I put the powder down about a week ago and I haven't seen any droppings since then. After putting down the powder, I thought I would probably find a lot of dead bugs but I didn't. I just noticed that there weren't anymore droppings. I think it works best if you know where the roaches travel, like their entrances/exits.
