Hello nate1939 - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The new Hotpoint over-the-range model is the RVM5160DH. It will be able to fit in the same cabinet space; however, you will need to use the new mounting bracket that comes with the new microwave. They have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. If you do not see any physical damage inside your microwave, but it is still not working, please disconnect the power to the microwave at the household distribution panel by removing the fuse or switching off the circuit breaker for a couple of minutes. Once power is restored, if the microwave is still not working properly, then we recommend service. For safety reasons, GE offers no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to: *Safety requirements due to high voltage (capacitor holds a high voltage charge even after it has been unplugged). *Complexity of electronic circuitry. *Special equipment needed to make diagnosis. If this does not help, we recommend contacting the GE Factory Service to schedule an appointment. They can be reached at 1.800.432.2737, Mon. - Fri., 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sat. - Sun., 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, EST. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

Hello, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. All of our current 30" models that start with the letters JVM, CVM, PVM, PNM, and SCA will normally fit into the same area. The dimensions may vary, but just slightly. These models all have a built-in fan underneath the microwave and are designed to be installed over a range or cooktop.
JVM's require a minimum 66" mounting height from the floor to top of the microwave. JVM models may be mounted higher than 66" from floor, but the further the microwave is from the cooktop, the more the vent draw capability is affected. The 66" from the floor dimension will allow approximately 14"-16" between the cooktop and the bottom front of the microwave. On the newer JVM's which are taller, the minimum would be 13 1/2". Please note that it is not critical that this 13 1/2"/14"-16" figure is met exactly. But it is the 66" from floor to top of microwave dimension that should be followed. If there is less than 66", the warranty is void if problems occur due to heat or steam from the cooktop surface below the microwave. Another way to look at it is to keep 30" between the top of the range and bottom of the cabinet that the JVM attaches to.
It is also important to know that you will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. Current models are installed with the use of a mounting plate. There is a key slot for flat bottomed cabinets and self-directed tapping screws. The model that you are looking at is a bisque. If all of your appliances are currently white you will want to be sure to order your new microwave in white also.
Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day! Read Less

GE name vs Hotpoint

Our GE over-the-range microwave, JVM1430BA 001, recently stopped heating food. It is 16 years old and we loved the unit. I am trying to replace it with a unit with the same control pad. I saw unit RVM1535 DM 2BB at our local appliance store - it looks the same, but says "Hotpoint" on the front instead of "GE". What is the difference?

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 105 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Everything stopped working My first one has been used for 3 years and suddenly out of power. At first, I thought it was the thermostat problem and checked all 3 of them. One of the 3 has infinite current resistance, i thought this thermostat is bad and bought a new one (thermostat). however, the new one has the same prob and it turned out to be that this thermostat should be like this. We do not know what the problem is. bring in a repairman will cost half of the micorwave and the it has been greasy after 3 yrs of usage. So we decided to replace it with exact the same model. The new one just came in and i will see how long it will last. September 6, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stops working after 2-3 years I am on my second one and once again it works fine and just stops heating the food. First time i just replaced it with another one as it matches my stove. Now its been 2 years and this one just stopped heating also. Brought in a repair man and he says its the Magnitron which is very expensive. This cost me $79.95 for a repair man to tell me this. I will be buying a new microwave and not this GE/Hotpoint. I'm wondering if the others that gave this item a good rating changed their minds after 2-3 years. I feel a microwave should last at least 5-6 years. I don't reccommend this. January 20, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Came with my apartment... Has issues I'm sure that this product would be fine if the plastic attached to the motor causing the plate to spin wasn't completely broken off the motor. I have no idea how that is even possible, but it causes a literal "hotpoint" in food and heat pads. It burns almost anything we put in it. February 10, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Magetron keeps going out Magnetron goes out after a few years. I've replaced my magnetron twice in the past 5 years. You only know the magnetron is bad when food suddenly stops heating. It's a cheaper microwave. Guess you get what you pay for. November 4, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Suitable Replacement for Previous Model After ten years my Hotpoint microwave died. Wanting to keep things uniform in the kitchen, I looked for and found the replacement model here on HomeDepot.com. It arrived quickly, well packaged and in perfect condition. Because I had the ten-year-old version of the same microwave, the swap was easy as we didn't even have to re-install the support bracket or anything else...everything was basically the same. EXCEPT the power cord does not come out in exactly the same spot on top so you'll have to have a saw ready on hand to cut another hole if you have the same type of set up. The microwave works well and looks nice, although I think the quality is slightly lesser than its predecessor...the door is a bit too light weight and feels kind of cheap but you cannot beat the price on this microwave! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Much Appreciated Christmas Gift! Received as a gift from youngest son, for Christmas. Our older, Whirlpool OTR microwave had died. He, and I installed it early Christmas morning before my wife, his Mom, got up. She was really surprised, and thrilled to have a new microwave! i forgot to re-adjust the blower, for recirculate (my fault). No one noticed it... Next morning, i remedied the fix....So far it works just fine! Thank-You son, and Home Depot! i am, HappyDayze! December 26, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy The fan and latch are noisy compared to the one that was replaced (same brand). April 1, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk. After install, I noticed that the control board seemed loose and felt cheap. Next visit to HD, I saw the display model was the same. Exactly one year and 4 days later- it's dead, and of course it had a 1 year warranty. I rated it as a one because zero wasn't a choice. Don't waste your time or money on this piece of garbage.
