Hello nate1939 - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. The new Hotpoint over-the-range model is the RVM5160DH. It will be able to fit in the same cabinet space; however, you will need to use the new mounting bracket that comes with the new microwave. They have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. If you do not see any physical damage inside your microwave, but it is still not working, please disconnect the power to the microwave at the household distribution panel by removing the fuse or switching off the circuit breaker for a couple of minutes. Once power is restored, if the microwave is still not working properly, then we recommend service. For safety reasons, GE offers no do-it-yourself repair advice on microwave ovens due to: *Safety requirements due to high voltage (capacitor holds a high voltage charge even after it has been unplugged). *Complexity of electronic circuitry. *Special equipment needed to make diagnosis. If this does not help, we recommend contacting the GE Factory Service to schedule an appointment. They can be reached at 1.800.432.2737, Mon. - Fri., 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sat. - Sun., 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, EST. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us! Read Less

Our GE over-the-range microwave, JVM1430BA 001, recently stopped heating food. It is 16 years old and we loved the unit. I am trying to replace it with a unit with the same control pad. I saw unit RVM1535 DM 2BB at our local appliance store - it looks the same, but says "Hotpoint" on the front instead of "GE". What is the difference?

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 58 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Everything stopped working My first one has been used for 3 years and suddenly out of power. At first, I thought it was the thermostat problem and checked all 3 of them. One of the 3 has infinite current resistance, i thought this thermostat is bad and bought a new one (thermostat). however, the new one has the same prob and it turned out to be that this thermostat should be like this. We do not know what the problem is. bring in a repairman will cost half of the micorwave and the it has been greasy after 3 yrs of usage. So we decided to replace it with exact the same model. The new one just came in and i will see how long it will last. September 6, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hotpoint over the stove microwave Husband started unit to heat his cup of water for coffee, this morning. yikes! sounded like a jet plane landing and water didn't heat. But this is a good review. The unit was installed in January of 2001, by the man who installed the kitchen cabinets we purchased from Home Depot, and this is the 1st problem. I suppose it's time to replace it. It has all the features I've ever needed. I like the defrost, the express settings, the popcorn feature, and the 2 under the unit lights. It's been easy to keep clean. It still looks brand new. April 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stops working after 2-3 years I am on my second one and once again it works fine and just stops heating the food. First time i just replaced it with another one as it matches my stove. Now its been 2 years and this one just stopped heating also. Brought in a repair man and he says its the Magnitron which is very expensive. This cost me $79.95 for a repair man to tell me this. I will be buying a new microwave and not this GE/Hotpoint. I'm wondering if the others that gave this item a good rating changed their minds after 2-3 years. I feel a microwave should last at least 5-6 years. I don't reccommend this. January 20, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Came with my apartment... Has issues I'm sure that this product would be fine if the plastic attached to the motor causing the plate to spin wasn't completely broken off the motor. I have no idea how that is even possible, but it causes a literal "hotpoint" in food and heat pads. It burns almost anything we put in it. February 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect in my kitchen over a matching Hotpoint gas stove I am astonished by the reviewer who gave this wonderful space-saving microwave a ONE-star review because, she claimed, hers was "noisy." It is certainly no more noisy than any other brand or model and it's one of darned few that are affordable and installs above a stove (for a beautifully matched look that's both modern and clean yet still recalls mom's kitchen of the mid-50's and '60's -- a look I find perfectly great). Perhaps her real complaint is with the two-speed exhaust fan, which is a bit loud but you CAN leave it off! December 18, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Magetron keeps going out Magnetron goes out after a few years. I've replaced my magnetron twice in the past 5 years. You only know the magnetron is bad when food suddenly stops heating. It's a cheaper microwave. Guess you get what you pay for. November 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Much Appreciated Christmas Gift! Received as a gift from youngest son, for Christmas. Our older, Whirlpool OTR microwave had died. He, and I installed it early Christmas morning before my wife, his Mom, got up. She was really surprised, and thrilled to have a new microwave! i forgot to re-adjust the blower, for recirculate (my fault). No one noticed it... Next morning, i remedied the fix....So far it works just fine! Thank-You son, and Home Depot! i am, HappyDayze! December 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Suitable Replacement for Previous Model After ten years my Hotpoint microwave died. Wanting to keep things uniform in the kitchen, I looked for and found the replacement model here on HomeDepot.com. It arrived quickly, well packaged and in perfect condition. Because I had the ten-year-old version of the same microwave, the swap was easy as we didn't even have to re-install the support bracket or anything else...everything was basically the same. EXCEPT the power cord does not come out in exactly the same spot on top so you'll have to have a saw ready on hand to cut another hole if you have the same type of set up. The microwave works well and looks nice, although I think the quality is slightly lesser than its predecessor...the door is a bit too light weight and feels kind of cheap but you cannot beat the price on this microwave!
