We bought an expensive Samsung FRONT load washer a year ago. Our clothes started to smell mildewy or like a sour dishcloth AFTER washing. We found out these new front loaders have an issue with the seal of the door not drying out. We tried everything to mitigate. After a year, we gave up and bought this Hotpoint TOP load washer from Home Depot's web site. The ribbed wash tub is large. OUR CLOTHES NOW SMELL FRESH!! I could not be happier with our Hotpoint top load washer. It is just a rock solid, dependable work horse and a huge value for the price.

Did you remove the shipping bar? I recently purchased this machine and I love it! I was told however to be sure to remove the shipping bar as it would cause the machine to "jump like its possessed" if I didn't remove it!

Had this over a year and it washes our clothes very well. Nothing fancy but I prefer a simple washing machine because if something goes wrong with a high tech washer, the problems are that much more complicated to try to fix. It's a little loud but nothing like the other reviews about the jumping and stuff. When we close the pantry door, it's not distracting at all.
The biggest reasons I chose this machine are that it is fairly priced and energy efficient. Saving $40 a yr is one of the best savings I saw among washers.

The balance was always off. I live in a two family house that both unit's laundry is in the basement. I would have to wait for the neighbors to leave because it was so loud, I felt bad they would have to listen to that. The agitator (I'm guessing that's what it's called... the middle piece that helps spin the clothes) always got clothes caught underneath it, pulling strings out of pants and hoodies, stretching out arms of clothes. every 2 months or so, the washer would make a burning smell and then completely stop spinning. Thankfully I got the warranty because it was the motor. FOUR times the motor went out. I haven't even had the washer for a year, and am now buying a new one with the gift card to home depot issued through the warranty, for "beyond repair." Not to mention, the whole electrical panel had to be replaced where the knobs are, and the tub itself had to be replaced. I will NEVER buy a Hotpoint ever again! What a lemon!

loud loud loud after wash number 3, sounds like a car going in to gear horrible agitation to the point no matter what setting its uneven, after 4 months of owning i have had 4 even loads that have stayed that way no matter how i load it!
when it goes off balance it nearly rips from the wall across the room in 3 loud bangs! now all it does is bang in almost every cycle just not enough to rip from wall, i thought i hated doing laundry before lol this had made the laundromat look appealing! however it does clean the laundry and it still works for a family of 6.

We don't use a washer much, just two adults in the house. After about 50 or so loads the machine stopped agitating. It fills and empties OK, but the tub doesn't spin. Sure, it's under warranty but it's still annoying. What's more, I see this is complaint about this model on several web sites.
In addition, the hot water solenoid may be defective, it only allows a small dribble to feed in despite substantial hose pressure. Cold water is like a fire hose.
