CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 3 out of 5 by my husband hates this range We bought this in 2006 when our thirty-year-old oven was about to burn our house down and we needed a replacement immediately, but couldn't afford more than a basic model. My husband regrets not spending more money. The oven is the really annoying part. It's not self-cleaning, but my husband has never cleaned it; I have. I don't mind that so much because the old one wasn't self-cleaning either and we've learned to be careful. The oven also runs about thirty degrees hotter than what it says, so we keep a thermometer in it to be more sure. The most annoying thing is that it blows very hot air out the top vent so we can't keep anything like salt and pepper shakers on the stove top if the oven is on, because it melts the plastic and makes any metal too hot even to touch. This makes it unpleasant and uncomfortable and inconvenient to use the stove while the oven is on. And it makes the kitchen unbearably hot in the summer. The stove itself is okay. The little simmer burner is basically useless because the normal burners go down plenty low enough to simmer stuff, but that one doesn't go high enough to be useful for anything but simmering. Over time, the burner we use the most has taken longer and longer to light. If we use it and put it out and then try to light it again, it won't light at all. I have to use a match. But the enamel finish is very resilient. I mostly wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth, sometimes use cleaning spray for very tough cooked-on stuff, and sometimes I scrub the worst messes, and yet the surface looks like new once it's clean. We have the metallic silver finish, which I like because it looks like stainless but is easier to keep clean. So basically it looks pretty good, but doesn't work especially well. If you cook a lot and plan to keep your range for ten or fifteen years, spend another $200 and get something a step or two up, with a more accurate thermostat, self-cleaning, and ventilation that doesn't interfere with using the stove. We'll be renovating our kitchen this year, and even though this oven will only be six years old, we plan to replace it in the renovation. January 4, 2012
