Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Value For a stamped wood product, this looks pretty fantastic when stained and finished! (see photos) The grooves are deep enough to hold the color well when the higher areas are wiped away. I used this to frame a 54" x 70" canvas print of an 18th century drawing of Paris. I wish he dimpled surfaces that are deeper were smooth, but they aren't that noticeable unless you look close. The steps I used to finish it were: 1. wipe-on medium/dark stain. 2. clear varnish 3. flat black spray enamel 4. Rubbed with steel wool to remove black paint from highest surfaces. I was so happy with the matte result that I didn't put another coat of varnish on. It looks very old and expensive - but it wasn't!
