How far into the ground should it go? Should you put concrete around the base?

Asked by: bobbir
Hi bobbir. We suggest burying the pole in a hole that is about 20 inches deep. That will have the line itself approximately 66 inches (5.5 feet) off the ground. If you want the line higher, dig a shallower hole; deeper, dig a deeper hole. Installation Instructions: 1. Dig a hole 8-12 inches in diameter and 20 inches deep. Taper the hole so it is larger at the top. Fill the bottom of hole approximately 3-inches deep with small rock. 2. Rest the lower pole on the bed of rocks and pour approximately 12 inches of concrete into the hole around it. Use level to align the pole vertically. Allow the concrete to set fully before attaching clothesline. 3. Once concrete is set, fill the remaining space with dirt. That's a 20-inch hole, 3 inches of rock, 12 inches of concrete, and 5 inches of dirt.

What should the distance between the two poles

Asked by: artflausa
Hi artflausa. This is a single pole (that comes in 3 pieces). To set up a clothesline, you'll need two poles. Now that is covered, the distance between poles is up to you. 15 feet seems to be a good balance between hanging space and minimal sagging in lines. We don't recommend exceeding 50 feet, but again, that's simply a function of how low lines will dip.

May I purchase a additional section of pole to rase it one more level ? I need another intermediate pole?

Middle section pole needed?
Asked by: lr0584
Hi Ir0584, I'm not sure if another manufacturer has something like that available. Right now, we don't. But we hear you, and we are looking to options for making one. I'm sorry that doesn't solve your immediate concern though! If it's sagging lines you're fighting, you might try a clothesline prop to support your clothesline in the middle. Good luck!

Hole drilled for eyebolt in crosspiece was misaligned and had to be redrilled. Plastic top caps - one was crushed other didn't fit the main tube. Crushed one was replaced and neither cap fit the main tube. They were exact size of the tube and subsequently split when tried to install. Good paint but that's the only thing that was good. Cheap imported posts but the price didn't reflect that. All the problems will show up after you cement in the lower portion of the main post--Too late to return it. Do not buy this garbage.

The other, and the replacement, both came in damaged boxes. The coating was scratched which would allow rusting. The diameter of the plastic cap for the top of the pole is too small making it difficult, if not impossible, to fit it over the top of the pole without breaking. The bolt holes in the upright and the cross bar are poorly aligned making it difficult to

The posts are easy enough to put together, and good-looking, but they are too short! Sheets are likely to drag on the ground, unless they are draped over two lines, and this obviously limits the space on the lines for other items. Our own lines at home (these were for one of our daughters) are a good foot higher off the ground, and can still be easily reached by family members who are average height.

The holes did not match up on the t-bar and had to be drilled to make them fit together. The other pole was a breeze. Very attractive and stable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy pole(s) for lots of laundry. Replacing some older, thinner clothesline poles that did not last, a H.D. salesman showed us these on the site. Don't make the same mistake I did - I ordered 1 thinking it was a 'set' of poles. Carted it out to the yard, started digging, and then realized it was only ONE pole. Yes, the description did say that, but I'd missed it. Sigh. Back to order a second pole, and wait a second week. The second pole was bent, and we had to do some 'on-site' repairs, involving banging it with a hammer, WD40, etc., but there was no way I was going to wait another week to re-order (I had laundry to hang!). BOTH poles are now up, look great, and are way heavier and thicker than my old set. If you only need one pole, you're fine - but if you are putting up a clothesline with 2 poles, just make sure you order 2.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clotheline To echo another person who reviewed the product: We, too, went to Home Depot and ordered the product while at the store. It seemed like there would be two poles, BUT it is one pole. You have to order a quantity of 2 if you want a free standing clothesline. From what we can see with the initial delivery, the product looks great. BUT, we have to wait yet another week to know for sure because neither Home Depot nor us could figure out that we really needed a quantity of 2. Disappointed in Home Depot for not bringing this to our attention as we were ordering at the store (and recognizing that we, too, have accountability here!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Laundry poles Purchased two poles and installed them about 1 month ago. My wife is happy. The first set had 1 section of the pole where the paint did not adhere and the steel was rusted. I called the source and they had a new piece out in two days and I did not have to return the defective section. They were great. I did not want the poles up all year so I actually installed a heavy duty 4" PVC into the concrete to allow the steel laundry poles to fit into the PVC pipe and they can be removed during the winter. I drilled a hole thru the pvc and the steel pole for a 4" screw to keep the poles from turning.
