After reading some of the reviews, I was surprised at the high quality of these crates. I bought one to use as a magazine crate in the living room.
The construction of mine was solid, but I did add a finishing nail between the staples in each board just to add some longevity to the box, since it might get heavy as it fills up. I distressed the wood a little then sanded lightly & stained it with Minwax Provincial stain. I'm going to add some felt pads to the bottom so it won't scratch up the floor over time. The carrying handles are nicely done.
Several have asked inside dimensions, here they are:
Length - 16 3/8"
Width - 11 3/4"
Height - 9 1/8"
Thickness of side boards - about 5/16"
Thickness of end boards - about 3/4"
Overall, I'd recommend these highly and you won't find a better price on a wooden crate of this size and quality.....they're Made in USA.

I waited until these were on sale as I needed to buy a number of them. Was totally worth the wait! I stained them a dark cherry and used these as shelving for an open area we had in our dining. SO happy with the result.

I bought these crates to use as glorified bookends/bookshelves to sit on top of dressers or end tables. These came with no padding in the packaging. All arrived in good shape, not coming apart. These are put together with STAPLES, not nails. The strips will not hold a lot of weight and will become bowed if you try to use them as actual shelving. The bottom strips will all have something underneath them for the application that I'm using them for so I'm not worried about weight. It took a stain well but will need some extensive sanding because they are very rough. RUSTIC is the correct word. My assessed value of these items are that I did not have to buy, saw, or put together the wood so the price that I paid was worth it.

I needed these for a project I was making. They were inexpensive so I jumped at it and realized they were very cheaply made. 2 slats broke when I was sanding them so I had to install reinforcements inside of them. I was using them for craft purposes, can't imagine actually using them to hold anything.

The crate was intended to provide a "stoop" for my aging dog (large lab) to be able to get up onto my bed. At the time I tried to find one longer than this one, but none with any reasonable price were available or were way wrong shape/too big to fit next to bed. However, dog refused to climb up onto it. So now I leave it by my bed and the cat occasionally sleeps on it but it is not strong enough to be used as a foot step for an adult, although a child can use it for that if I cover it with an appropriate pillow or folded towel. For the price I would not do it again. However, to be fair it does serve some functions in the house but I suspect a $4-$6 plastic "step" would have done the same thing.
