Building with the crates was very easy. I used four crates as a place for my kids to put their shoes or backpacks. The crates are not perfect in demensions so you have to play with them a little to figure which would be best next to the other. I used 2x4s to hold the base together and a 2x12 as the top. For the backing I used a larger piece of plywood and the excess piece I cut off, I used as the shelf on top. The crates are easy to paint and are strong enough to be used as a seat. The crates are great and I will be using them again in future projects.

This box served it's purpose but is not worth the price, I was in a time crunch and had no other options. Wood came apart easily, since it's held together with tiny staples.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AnneC Sturdy and attractive
These unfinished crates are attractive and reasonably solid. They're compressor-stapled together but the side bars are thicker and sturdier than your standard apple crate. Can be sanded and then stained or painted for a finished look but are reasonable attractive pine in their unfinished state. (They do not require sanding for basic use, but definitely haven't undergone a superfine grain so I wouldn't recommend putting them to use in a place where they will be actively touched/could splinter over time without doing your own additional sanding.) Natural variation occurs due to the wood, of course. Stack well enough due to thickness of sides but do not interlock.

This crate is small, well made crate, I don't recommend transporting water or oils in this crate- otherwise a good product

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by icheckemout Quality was better than I expected
After reading some of the reviews, I was surprised at the high quality of these crates. I bought one to use as a magazine crate in the living room.
The construction of mine was solid, but I did add a finishing nail between the staples in each board just to add some longevity to the box, since it might get heavy as it fills up. I distressed the wood a little then sanded lightly & stained it with Minwax Provincial stain. I'm going to add some felt pads to the bottom so it won't scratch up the floor over time. The carrying handles are nicely done.
Several have asked inside dimensions, here they are:
Length - 16 3/8"
Width - 11 3/4"
Height - 9 1/8"
Thickness of side boards - about 5/16"
Thickness of end boards - about 3/4"
Overall, I'd recommend these highly and you won't find a better price on a wooden crate of this size and quality.....they're Made in USA.
