Which do I use first: cutting board oil or butcher block conditioner?

I'm finishing a brand new untreated maple butcher block counter. I got both products as suggested.
Asked by: TigerLily
I would say to use the cutting board oil first and you could continue to use it there after or use the butcher block conditioner. If it's an area that where going to see a lot of water (near a sink) I would use the butcher block conditioner. the difference is that butcher block conditioner has some beeswax and carnauba wax in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for high end butcher blocks I am a woodworker and have built dozens of butcher blocks for family and friends. I use this product on all my blocks. To apply, I use a wet/dry sandpaper and sand in the finish to 400 grit. This creates a nice slurry and fills any open pours. After about 15 minutes, I wipe the surface dry. Once the block gets seasoned, I apply this finish annually as a maintenance. Might have to do more frequently depending on where you live. I'm in San Diego - perfect climate. I actually carry a bottle, rag and some sandpaper in my car so when we are visiting people that I have made a block for, I can do a quick rub and the block looks perfect again. Highly recommend this product as it is super easy to use, almost impossible to screw up and is non-toxic. Not recommended for outdoor use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cutting Board Oil I put this on a big expensive cutting board and a butcher block style table quite often and after awhile it will repel water and make clean up of the surface more easy. I also have a house built in 1938 with a small wooden bay window, that our two cats like to sit in. When I bought the house the wood was all dried out and I regularly apply this cutting board oil to the wood and the window frames. It has made the wood look beautiful again, and since it is food grade oil it is non-toxic for the cats. Good stuff, for preserving any and all wood, old or new! I just put a small amount on the wood and use a folded up paper towel to coat the surfaces of the wood. You cannot over oil the wood with food grade oil, so use it as often as you wish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THIS PRODUCT IS AWESOME!!! I am not sure what happened above, but my experience was/is great! I use this on all of my wooden kitchen items! Knife handles, bamboo cutting boards, etc.. I love it. It keeps them from drying out and they look great even though they are old! I recommend it to ALL of my friends! The other brands I have tried were not food grade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice for protecting Butcher Block cutting boards I use this to oil my butcher block cutting boards and it seems to work the same as mineral oil on them. It does seem to soak in a little better and quicker. Mineral oil seemed to take longer to absorb and I always had to wipe off some that would not absorb. This seems to absorb all and if I leave it over night none needs to be wiped in the morning. Also is does not seem to leave any oily marks on the countertop.
