I just purchased this fan and the one I bought has a 1" diameter downrod. I too wanted a longer downrod, but HD does not have 1" diameter downrods
I talked to Home Depot at 877 527-0313 and they checked with the manufacturer while I was on the phone and the manufacturer said that maybe they may have shipped the wrong downrod. It should have been a 3/4" downrod. BUT.......

I checked the connector on top of the fan and it too is 1" diameter so either the manufacturer rep didn't really know or they are shipping the wrong fans.
IF you only want to mount that fan close coupled to the ceiling or you will be using the 4" downrod included everything will work fine. Otherwise, I suggest that you have HD person open the box and check what size of the one you are purchasing
I did find 1" downrods on the web, so if you want an extension longer than the 4" included, be prepared to order it on-line from some other company,
MHO - Whoever makes the Farmington fans for HD has both 1" and 3/4" downrod designs. They may have incorrectly shipped a large amount of 1" fans to HD incorrectly. Read Less

Yes it will. Make sure it is the correct diameter downrod. I believe it should be a 3/4 inch downrod.

Answer:
We do apologize, but we can't guarantee that our downrods are going to be compatible with a Harbor Breeze fan since we have not tested them with their fans. We would recommend contacting them to see if they would install properly.

Answer:
It depends on the ceiling height on what length of downrod should be used.
9 ft ceiling up to a 12 inch downrod
10 ft ceiling up to a 18 inch downrod
12 ft ceiling up to a 36 inch downrod
14 ft ceiling up to a 60 inch downrod
Any ceiling less than 9 feet the fan should be as close to the ceiling to prevent a person hitting the blades.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A necessary purchase. I purchased a white down rod. For some reason the manufacturer of these rods don't think it is important to match the fan colors. I realize there are many fans out there but white fans are WHITE. This rod, and the rod at Lowes, are all different whites. Tan white and yellowish white. All the white fans on the market are pure white. Frustrating. Why don't these various manufacturers work together? August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by White extension rods did the trick We needed more room from the ceiling than came with the fan. The local sales rep recommended these and they worked perfect with our fan. Super easy to install. July 26, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Length good, color poor Our fan that need this extension is a bright white and this downrod is more of an off white when matched up against the new fan. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Extension Downrod The product worked as designed. I have to make a slight adjustment for grounding wire. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Fine The down rods work like they should. I have installed Hundreds of different brand fans and have always purchased the down rods from HD. Other peoples reviews that they use on other brand of fans and can't seem to screw them in to motor housing. Probably should not be installing there own fans. June 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by tube for fan we had ceiling fan on our front but it did not cool us so we decided to change it. The tube that came with the fan was a little too small. We went to Home Depot and the man in the fan department told this was the shortest that he had. at first we thought it was going to be to long and we would hit our heads but we used it anyhow. surprise it was just right now we sit on our pouch all the time and it is comfortable. it is great. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Quality But Doesn't fit all fans Tried to get this to work with a recently purchased Hampton Bay fan. Doesn't fit. The threads bind up, probably because someone at the factory was a little to liberal applying paint to the threads. Had to use a wire brush to remove some of the paint before I could get it to thread into the motor assembly. But really difficult trying to get it to thread all the way down. When I finally got the holes for the retaining pin to line up, it was still out of line. Comparing it to the stock unit on the Hampton Bay fan, the hole is a fraction lower on the stock unit. No way this would screw all the way in to fit the retaining pin. September 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Did the job I needed an extension for a hanging ceiling fan/light fixture. The 12 inch extension rod worked out great providing the desired distance from the ceiling. Installation was intuitive - no issues what-so-ever. February 25, 2015
