We only have one light switch for ceiling light. Can this fan and light be operated on that one wire switch with the remote?

Answer:
Yes. That is the way we have it installed. The mounting bracket for the remote mounts neatly to the front of a typical toggle switch (not decora). So once you turn on the switch, you can fully control it from the remote, which can be mounted at the same place as the switch. Neat design that keeps the functionality of the old switch location.

I have mine connected to a wall switch. If I turn off the wall switch with the fan running and then turn the wall switch back on, I have to use the remote to turn the fan on again.

Hello Tami and thank you for your question.
Yes, the Hunter 52 in. Contempo Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan w/ Remote Control will need to be wired for a single switch. Hunter Technical Support confirmed that since you will be operating the ceiling fan and light from one switch, the switch must be “on” at all times. You will operate the ceiling fan and light from the remote control.
All wiring must be in accordance with national and local electrical codes and ANSI/NFPA 70. If you are unfamiliar with wiring, use a qualified electrician.

Answer:
You should. There are three wires like most Hunter fans. The white - to the neutral, the Black with white stripe to the light, and the solid Black goes to the Fan. So you should be able to use this with a wall switch.

Does this just have a single bulb - or two? Most of the other fans specify the number, but this one doesn't.

Answer:
Than fan uses two bulbs. The bulb socket is good old Edison socket. Mine came with CFL bulbs. The light output was bright enough for this application, but you can upgrade to bright CFLs if you want. The socket says that it will take a maximum 40 watt bulb in each socket.

Hello hunter fan and thank you for your question.
The Hunter Contempo Ceiling Fan cannot be installed without the integrated light fixture assembly. You should only use only the light fixture supplied with this fan model.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 39 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hunter can do better I am very handy, having built my house. I wasted 3 1/2 hrs. trying to put this fan in service. It was missing parts and instructions were ridiculous. Instructions completely left out sections that were essential in putting the fan light to the fan assembly. October 31, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Good fan but terrible light The fan was easy to put together and install. The other reviews mention removing the black screws before installing the plate of the light fixture which helped me with installation. The light fixture is terrible!! It's so bad that I'm gonna return the fan. My room is 14x17 with 11 ft ceiling and the bulbs that come with it do not light up the room at all. I've tried soft white CFL bulbs equivalent to a 100w incandescent but it gives off a very yellow color. The problem is the glass dome. I've even tried 40W incandescent (the recommended max) and it's way too dark. I'm very disappointed that I went through all the installation to find out the light is too dark. November 10, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by By Far the BEST Ceiling Fan I've Ever Had I've had at least a dozen new ceiling fans installed over the years and this one is by far the BEST one yet. It's attractively priced though it looks like it cost more. Very sleek. It does NOT rattle, shake, or hum, even on the highest speed. The remote control is super convenient. The light's not as bright as the 5-light model I was using prior, but a table lamp supplements well enough, so I have no complaints whatsoever. I plan to purchase at least 2 more of these fans as they are look good, work quietly, and were VERY easy to install (took less than 30 mins). Definitely recommended, don't hesitate to buy this fan. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No Problem every thing works great! no wobble no noise.... perfect. no need to balance. many people say you can not wire the fan and light separately but this is not true. if you understand electronics a little i promise you can wire the light and fan on different switches. i have done it. with this "Lutron Maestro 1 A Multi-Location 7 Speed Combination Fan and Light Control, White" no need to use the supplied remote but you must install the supplied controller box. if you don't then yes you can only wire the fan. however, like people said the five screw deal did make me scratch my head for a while. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Fan! I've had this fan for a few months now and I'm very happy with it. Installed in my bedroom and I sleep much better with it running. The three speeds are nice and it is very quiet. Was looking for a modern looking fan with nickel finish and this fit perfect. There is a step missing in the instructions where I had to remove a piece when putting it together but you'll figure it out. The light is not that bright so don't expect it to light up your room on it's own. Remote works good too. Great fan for the price. I will be buying another one for another room. June 10, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by great if you don't need to see when you come in the room If you walk in the room and flip the swtich on your wall the light does ... nothing! That's right, after "turning on the lights" you'll have to search your room in the dark to find the stupid remote, which is the ONLY way to turn on the fan and the dim glow mood lighting pathetic excuse for light. So you might as well hardwire the 12/3 in the wall and remove you wall switch, because you'll have to tape the stupid remote to the wall as your only means of operating the light. This is just terrible design, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. March 3, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best fan I've ever owned. This fan is absolutely wonderful. It was a breeze to install and took less than an hour for my husband to do it. It looks so wonderful in our living room, like it was meant to be there. The fan itself looks great, the ability to reverse the blades to a different finish is awesome, it's almost like getting two fans for the price of one. This thing couldn't get any quieter if it tried! We've had it both on low and on high and you can't even hear it! It moves air really, really well and no portion of our giant living room goes untouched. June 17, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great fan we renovated the whole house and bought 2 of these along with other ceiling fans. This was easily the best of the bunch and good value. We have one in the den and master bath so it shows you its versatility. The built-in light is a little dim but it's good for casual use. It spins both directions so if you find it's not producing enough air, you may have to reverse it via the simple switch on the cylinder. We had to figure this out for the master bedroom with high ceilings so we have a separate downrod installed with it. April 24, 2012
