Does the globe spin and make you dizzy?

Hi. I love the look of this fan but am puzzled by the video they show. It appears that, unlike a regular fan where the blades spin and the lights stay put, the globe light spins as well.

Is this true?

I think it could make one rather dizzy...

Thanks for any input on this!

I spoke to a HD rep today and they said it's estimated to be back in stock late November to early December. Bummer. I was really hoping to buy this fan, but I need it in the next few weeks.

Hi,

I understand that the light is covered with glazed plastic so the light is always going to be weak, but if I were to still use this (love the design, plan on using for kid), and combine with say a 60 Watt or 120 Watt light, would it light up a 9 foot by10 foot room very well?

We use it in a 14x13 room with a dark blue ceiling. I replaced the original bulbs with Sylvania ultra LED 60w bulbs and it lights up the room rather well.

Hi SGMD! Yes, if also combined with another light fixture there wouldn't be any problem at all lighting up a room that size.

Can you provide model numbers for compatible light kits?

I know there are light kits available, as I purchased one a few years ago when we bought the fan. It has the stupid candelabra sockets and I want one with normal sockets for "fluorescent" lights. I purchased a Hunter light kit sounds like it would fit on the current version, but is too small for the version we have. Ours has the approx 5" diameter light kit.

Does this allow this light (http://www.hunterfan.com/Accessories/Fitters/Four-Light-Brushed-Nickel-Fitter) to work on the Discovery fan? Sure seems to be saying that's what it does. Read Less

Answer:
We do apologize, but for the Discovery model you would need to use the light kit that it came with originally. You wouldn't be able to install an accessory light kit on this particular fan.

Discovery 48 in. Indoor Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 100.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great looking fan, expensive to maintain We bought this fan for our son's bedroom from Home Depot. He was very excited to get it, however within a year I had to replace both the light pull switch and the fan control switch a month apart from each other. Hunter support was slow to respond and ultimately it didn't benefit us to contact them as I still had to purchase both replacement parts which added another $35.00 to the cost of this fan. Even though this fan is neat to look at, by the time I had to replace the two pull switched I could have bought something better.

Stick with 2700kelvin bulbs and use higher wattage so you can get light, otherwise the room may feel too dim. Other than that, this is an Excellent fan, very quiet, as you'd expect from Hunter.

I purchased this one for the "nursery" bedroom I recently modified for our new granddaughter. We were looking for a brushed nickel or pewter finish fan to replace the white one we had in the room prior to my remodel, and we came across this one. It's not a fan that I will probably keep in place once the new rugrat gets to junior high, but it's pretty unique for a child's room. It's constructed ok for the price. The glass globe is nice, the blades look decent and it mounted easily as is typically the case for most of today's mid-priced fans. The blades and associated mounting brackets balanced nicely right out of the box -- I didn't have to add any weights at all, which to me is a good sign of quality control. The sheet metal around the main body is a little larger in diameter than it needs to be which results in a little bulging between the mounting screws but not excessively so, although it does make it look a little cheap (this is why I rate it four stars rather than five). It came with no-name CFL bulbs which is a nice plus, although I donated them and installed LED bulbs as I much prefer LEDs, especially now that they are so inexpensive. Hopefully since it's a Hunter it'll hold up. Overall it's a nice fan and highly recommended if the design appeals to you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A touch of Earth This fan is a beautiful addition to my son's bedroom. Due to the painted globe, the light is not very bright but still lights up his room. I surprised my son with this ceiling fan and he thinks it's awesome. The blades are nicely painted except for the 'baby' rocket and can be switched to black when he's older. The fan is quite but I only allow him to have it on low so I'm not sure how it is when it's on high. I had someone install it so I'm not sure of the ease or difficulty of the install. It was also a great price (under $100). I gave it four starts because of the rocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was everything I'd hoped for. I've never even helped installing a ceiling fan before, but on... This was everything I'd hoped for. I've never even helped installing a ceiling fan before, but once we figured out how to get the old one down putting this one up was so simple that my 13 yr old thought we could do it for a living. It is so beautiful whimsical silent and lived up to every single one of my expectations. The star shaped pulls were a surprise and definitely the icing on the cake. We've had it for a month now and it's still perfectly silent even in full speed as my son likes to have it all night long.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fan for children's room Assembly was a bit of a pain, lots of parts. When looking up at the fan the compass is backwards. We set the compass so north was facing north but east and west point in the wrong directions. Minor in the greater scheme of things.
