Answer:
Cap it with a wire nut and cram it back in the junction box. That red wire is for a second wall switch which this fan does not support.

Answer:
You will not use the red wire coming out of your ceiling. You may use electrical tape, or a wire nut to cover the wire so that it does not touch any other wires. The red wire from your ceiling is not needed to operate your Ergonomic ceiling fan.

Answer:
It does come with an extender, but I don't think it would put it down 2 feet. I didn't use the extender and my blades are 8 inches below the cieling. I think the rod would drop them another 6 inches

Answer:
Model 20171 comes with a 3 inch down rod only. Hunter does manufacture accessory down rods which may be purchase from the retailer directly (Home Depot). For an 11 inch ceiling it is recommended that a 24 inch down rod is use.

Locating the Jumper Pins in the Fan Body

This question is from Ergonomic 56 in. Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan-DISCONTINUED
Asked by
tlwc74
Chicago, IL
August 18, 2013
Sorry for the duplicate question. Our fan, model, 20171 uses jumper pins that must be changed in the remote and the actual fan body. We cannot find them in the fan. Do we need to take down the entire fan to change this setting?

Thanks,

Tina

Answer:
The jumpers are located on the receiver that is located in the canopy of the fan. The canopy is the bowl shaped at the ceiling that the fan is suspended from. If you have any other questions in regards to a Hunter product please contact one of our live representatives at 1-888-830-1326 Monday-Friday 8am-6pm CST or Saturday 11am-4pm CST. How do you change the dip switch settings for this fan?

This question is from Ergonomic 56 in. Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan-DISCONTINUED
Asked by
tlwc74
Chicago, IL
August 18, 2013
We have two of these fans and the remotes interfere with each other and our neighbors. We cannot find instructions for changing the dip switch on the actual fan body. Just changing it on the remote, as directed in the online instructions, does not work. Thanks!

Customer Reviews

Ergonomic 56 in. Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan-DISCONTINUED is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ergonomic 56 in. Ceiling Fan I purchased this fan for two reasons. One, because of its simple and yet sophisticated design and two because of the Hunter name. The fact that a single glass dome conceals the lights, nothing protruded and that there were no pull strings or chains was a major selling point. It is just a clean design. In the past six (6) years I bought seven (7) of these fans. There are currently being used in two separate houses, four in one and three in another. They run 24-7 and to date, have never given us a single issue. So much so, that I bought (4) of the fans for the second house based on the performance of the first (3) fans. They are quite, circulate the air effortlessly and the remote controls are a breeze to use. Two of the fans in the living / dining areas are programmed to run on one remote so that they can be controlled easily in that space. All others are run independently and on separate frequencies. Regarding installation, the fans are not light, but are no heavier than any other fan in the same class size. Installation is a two-person job, especially when dealing with very high ceilings, but the installation is easy by just following the instructions in the manual. If you are looking for a clean, quiet and reliable fan that is easy to use and will last, this is the fan for you. Hope that this review helps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed in this fan I installed 4 different model fans in my home. This was by far the most difficult to install & the only one I regret installing. I have the same issue that others have with the fan starting on its own. It will turn itself on in high speed, reverse direction with the light on. It doesn't matter if the fan is already on or not. I've changed the jumper connections in the transmitter and reciever multiple times with no improvment. There is def. a problem with this receiver/transmitter. Would not recommend buying this model fan.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One good, one not so good Purchased this fan last fall and it worked perfectly so 6 months later we had another installed. Second fan operates on its own---shuts itself off/on and changed speeds, lights go on and off randomly. Chaanging the frequency in the remote and fan did not resolve the issue. I would NOT purchase this model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great fan. I had to write this reveiw in order for customers to continue to buy the fan. I had one problem with this fan and it was the installation, because the instructions were terrible. It took about two hours to complete the installation and my wife had to help me. I have installed at least 15 ceilings fans in my life time but this one by far was the most dillicult. I say that because the lack of instructions or poorly written instructions. I will say after we finish the installation, now when I look back on what went down I think I can follow the illustrations rather than the instructions. Finally I want to say this fan is a five but I will rate it a four because of the installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied I initially bought one, and was so impressed got two more. One was a "new install" the others replaced existing old fans. The fan is VERY quiet and moves a lot of air at even low speeds. The remote takes a little getting used to, but READ THE INSTRUCTIONS first, then it's obvious. It's clear some of the other commenters didn't bother with this step. Mine were professionally installed and the electrician was very impressed with them as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome. Remote is awesome! Light is dimmable. Doesn't make all that much annoying noise. Fan speeds low and medium don't move as much air as you would expect. Other reviews were not kidding about the wiring being complicated and the directions quite difficult to understand. Mounting the fan to the ceiling was difficult. It became much easier when mounting fan to ceiling to prop weight of fan onto a tall bookcase insead of holding fan and trying to make all wire connections. Besides the wiring confusion madness and holding the weight of the fan above your head during installation - I would say if you can deal with that during installation - then you will be extremely satisfied with your purchase once the fan is installed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great fan, poor electronics I had three of these in my last home and loved the looks and how they worked. So, when I wanted to replace the fans in my current home, I chose five of these. Yes, they are time consuming to assemble and mount but patience and close attention to the instructions will make this a success. (It is easier after the first one.) I was concerned about the reviews stating that the fans operated by themselves but since I had no problems at my last house, I took the risk. The fans have been up for about one month. Three of the five fans have problems. One fan will operate fine except that the light is reluctant to turn off, requiring between 1 and 10 pushes of the off button before it will go out. The other two fans turn the lights and fan on by themselves. Since this is a suburban home in a subdivision, I think it is highly unlikely that there is interference from a neighbor's remote. Furthermore, it is unlikely that anyone was up when these fans turned on. I'm not sure just what I am facing to get replacement parts. Hunter needs to find a new manufacturer for the electronics.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hunter I bought this fan because my sister, who lives down stairs from us, has one and I thought it was good looking and worked well so we bought one too... It is good looking but it goes OFF, both the light and the fan, at any and all times. Ghost in the fan. I am pretty sure that it is other remotes in our busy NYC neighborhood which is interfering, but it is constant and quite annoying. As I said though, it is very nice looking and I hope that Hunter decides to fix this and send us a replacement!
