This quiet Hunter Fairhaven fan (Model 53031) circulates the air well so the air conditioner does not cycle 'on' too long. The major complaint from purchaser's of this fan has been the dim lighting. I finally reached an intelligent customer service rep (Krystal) who researched the problem I was having with the dim lighting. When I turned on the lights, it was bright for a few seconds before it dimmed, I told her. Using a multi-meter, the lights were only using 28 watts of the 60 watts allocated. That is the major complaint I have read-which I also had..
What I am about to tell you is not in the Owner's Guide & Installation Manual! Here are the steps for a normal bright light that you thought you would get when you bought your Hunter Fairhaven fan! Make sure the wall switch is in the off position-to get started. Quick & easy process! Turn on the wall switch to the fan. Using the remote control, hold down the 'Off' Button, press the 'light' button twice. That is it! Your lighting problem is now fixed! Customer Service also recommended purchasing LED lighting so I will look into that. I fixed my fan today July 21,2015. I am extremely happy with the lighting in the living room.
There is no mention in the manual on where to put the remote receiver. I called the customer service and it sits in the canopy. I angled it into the ceiling for a better fit.
Another quick fix: If you are attaching the fan blades (blade irons) to the motor by yourself, put the 2 screws in the blade irons, place 'Scotch' tape over the two separate screws to hold them in place. Then securely tighten the screws to the motor using your screw driver. Remove 'Scotch' Tape. I also used Scotch tape to complete this task!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ErinP I needed the fan primarily for the light attached
This fan was one of the more expensive fans at The Home Depot, but I wanted something that was good quality. I was installing it in a room that had no ceiling lights and I thought it would suit a dual purpose. I was wrong. The fan comes with three, 60 watt candelabra bulbs, and I thought that would be enough. When on, the lights have an orange glow and barely give off any light. I replaced the bulbs with something a little clearer and brighter, but it did not make much of a difference. This fan works great for moving air around in a large space, but the light is useless.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Happy Nice product - a pain to install
I am not a novice when it comes to installing ceiling fans. I installed all six fans in the house 10 years ago. When it was time to replace the fan in our master bedroom, we purchased the Fairhaven. After fighting the install for several hours (everything went smooth until it was time to place the remote in the canopy) we finally called in a professional installer. He looked at the fan, stated he had just put one of these in a home earlier in the week and it took him 90 minutes to complete the canopy install. They need to either increase the size of the canopy or shrink the size of the remote receiver.
Be forewarned, if you buy this have it installed by a professional!

We bought this fan specifically because it had a remote. Love it! Had it installed by Home Depot's contracted electrician and could not be happier! The fan is quiet and provides sufficient light to supplement the lighting in our bedroom. The electrician took the time to fully explain the functions of the remote (including the dimmer feature.) Definitely recommend this fan!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BewilderedFanMan Nice Fan but would like the strings back
I like the fan. Looks good and puts off enough air. However, I don't like the lighting and fan speed by remote only. When you turn the light on from the wall, it doesn't get to the light I want. It tries to remember where it was the last time you switched it off and then adjusts automatically. The lights it comes with are not bright enough. I like bright lights and could care less about dimming lights. The worst part is the remote control only option. I like the old school strings so that I always have the manual option to change speed and light source. This fan removes them and gives you the remote only option. Now, how many remotes do you have in your house and do you know what they all go to? Have kids? If so, good luck on ever being able to find the remote to change the speed or light settings. Its just not practical to go only remote in my opinion. Could mount it to the wall but it is a hidious remote in a creme color. No way I'm putting this on the wall. Best solution is hid in a drawer. Good fan but has some bad ideas. Hoping the remote last as long as the fan. Based on looks, I give the remote one, maybe two years. Do yourself a favor and find another fan with strings. You'll be glad you did in a couple of years.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DependableKen Found a possible fix to the dim lighting problem
The introductions for the installation left out several crucial steps, such as where to put the remote receiver. Eventually I found a YouTube video was very helpful. Other than that it was an fairly easy two-person job.
I am disappointed by the speed settings. High is too high for my wife and medium is too slow for me.
The quality of the remote seems horribly cheap.
Like almost everyone else here i noticed how horrible the lighting is. The bulbs seem at half power. I put them in my bathroom and they are very bright. I found the below somewhere else:
"We apologize that the lights do not meet your expectations. Your best option would be to reset the lighting through your wall switch & the receiver. First, you can reset the power to the light through your wall switch or your breaker. Please turn off the power then after 10 seconds, turn the power back on. Second, press & hold the Fan Off button while pressing the light button 3 times. This will reset the dimming feature in the receiver & should restore the light to full brightness"
That seems to have fixed the problem.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TBanana Incredibly quiet, beautiful and keeps the room cooler!
This is an amazing fan! I always went cheap before but so glad I went for a better quality one this time. It's true...you get what you pay for. Pay the extra on this beautiful fan. It's soooo quiet. I can't even tell it's on. Wow... and it immediately cools the room even when on 1. Setting 3 is probably a little insane unless you do not have A/C. =) Best fan I ever bought!! Thanks!! [Oh, and I was not in the mood to install it...so I got a local electrician to do it for me.] I also love the remote control! It does the light and the fan settings. Cool!

Standard ceiling fan replacement. Very easy to install and the remote control is a plus. The directions could have been more clear about where/how to store the remote sensor for the fan. (Not to be confused with the remote control itself)
