I had a landscaper put in and indoor controller outdoors mounting it right above a gutter. Also the outside electrical supply is right underneath the controller. Isn't this dangerous?

Answer:
An outdoor controller could be installed anywhere, but an indoor, must be in a covered area, when you purchase an outdoor controller, they do not come with a cord, it must be purchased separately. This is why you should hire a licensed irrigation company instead of a Landscaper who typically carries no license.

My current Hunter EC is not operating properly. I prefer not hiring someone to install a new one. I'm not able to locate a Hunter EC, and it seems to me that the X-Core is the same, but has a solar addition, and 8 stations.

Answer:
I am not familiar with the Hunter EC but you should be able to replace it with the X-Core Controller if you have no more more than 8 zones on your system. Just be careful to mark the wires for each zone to be sure you place them back on the proper connection for the zone. Otherwise it sshould be a pretty easy fix.

Answer:
In addition to downloading a manual, you can go to the Hunter website for instructions. I found the on-line instructions better in some cases than the manual. For example, my manual says the reset button is in the lower wiring compartment. In fact, as shown on-line, the reset button is on the right outside.

Any controller of ANY brand could be used in any location as long as it supports the quantity of zones that you have. If in doubt, call a licensed irrigation person and they will install a more quality controller with more options.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This controller worked perfectly for my application. I have 8 individual zones and a couple of those were 2 solenoid valves per zone. Also, throughout the entire watering program I am running a master valve relay. So, at times this controller is energizing 3 coils simultaneously. This is a great investment that I never have to worry about. It has more functions that I will probably never use. It's very easy to program...very user friendly. Been running a couple of months now and no issues at all. Completely automatic beyond my expectations! I would definitely buy another if needed in the future. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Saved many dollars over professional installation This controller was very easy to install, took me only about 15 to 20 minutes to remove the old one and install the new one. I saved over $200 versus the price quoted by the irrigation service company. July 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by While it lasts... On my fourth one, replace every 2-3 years like clockwork. Once dead display nothing worked, second time same thing, third time it triggers sprinklers 3x daily when set for once a day at 5am (checked current time and programmed time) and the thing was running at 8:30am. All various hunter industies models (consumer version) i personally have had this experience with. June 13, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by slightly possessed product Overall it is an irrigation system. So for that purpose it works. The issue we are having with it is its complexity. Using the manual that comes with it, we set up the usual time, date, watering days, etc... For some strange reason the sprinklers will go off on random unscheduled days/times. We check and it is not an error on our behalf as far as scheduling goes. We have a rain censor as well, and it will still water even when it is raining, or has just rained. We then thought maybe the system was faulty so we purchased a new one (The one I am reviewing here) The same exact thing is happening with this unit, we also purchased a new rain sensor just in case. This was all professionally installed and set up. This item has a few kinks. Mechanically for the basic function it does instruct the irrigation to water by zone. The timing is a bit off (possessed). For the price I would have just gone with a simpler and more basic unit. We still might just have this one removed and go simple. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by No Problems This controller was purchased to replace the one our landscaper left open to the rain - the control panel does not like to be wet! We now make sure the door is closed and locked! The controller works as intended with no problems, thus far. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sprinkler Control System Easy to install and step by step set-up installation were followed with no issues. March 15, 2016
