Customer Questions & Answers

Can I replace the candelabra incandescent bulb with an LED or CFL light bulb for more light.

I want to know before I purchase the fan.
Asked by: LSLF
I work in the electrical department at a Home Depot, and the answer is yes. I would recommend LED. Great energy savers, very little heat, and you can get a three-pack of Philips candelabra base bulbs for less than $10.00. They will pay for themselves in energy savings long before they wear out. Also, the LEDs don't have mercury in them, which makes them much better for the environment than CFLs. I have a similar setup in my living room and am very happy with it.

Yes and Home Depot carries them.

Can I order this model-53161 without the light assembly?

I had two like this in my home. The one in living room never was right.
Asked by: Anonymous
I do not think so. I looked at my fan and it does not appear to have this option as it is. You may want to contact the manufacturer to see if they offer another option.

Customer Reviews

Oakhurst 52 in. Indoor Flushmount White Ceiling Fan is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 209.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible customer service Had this fan 1 year before the motor blew. Hunter refuses to replace it saying it the wiring harness or the capacitor. Beware if your going to try and claim a warranty don't take your fan down til you call them cause they have to have proof it's installed and you have to run through their trouble shooting with it installed to the ceiling or they won't run through the trouble shoooting so you can claim the warranty. Hunter might have been a good fan company but they aren't anymore. I'll buy any other companies fan or do without before buying anyone sub par hunter product and deal with hunters sub par customer service.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pretty, poor air movement on high, light amount OK Nice looking fan and my installer had no trouble getting it up. It seems balanced and has run well for about a week now. It really doesn't move air as well as most normal fans, even on high speed. I bought a cheap 44" fan for the kitchen at the same time, and it moves air much better than this larger one. You have to stand almost under this one to feel any air. Light brightness is acceptable with included bulbs. I used 60W equivalent LED Daylight bulbs to get bright light. Shade color is a white marble swirl, which I prefer over the amber shades that come with most bronze finish fixtures.

By the time electrician arrived to uninstall, 30 days had passed and HD would not accept fan for return- 30 days for online orders( but that's another issue! ). Called hunter and they sent a wire harness which electrician promptly installed- still hummed and electrician took down. Called hunter and they would not help because fan was now uninstalled and the person who answers phone cannot troubleshoot??? I offered to let them speak with my licensed electrician but they just stonewalled me. I am stuck with a fan that doesn't work, a 100.00 electrical bill for a 59.00 fan. Beware when Hunter says they guarantee their fans- Electrician suggested a better quality fan!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hunter Oakhurst Ceiling Fan Do not buy!! I am writing this review as I am laying in my bed with this ceiling fan installed right above me..and sweating my butt off. The "low" setting is so low that you can not even feel any air being moved around. The "Medium" and "High" settings are pretty much identical and comparable to what a "low" setting would be on any other fan. Very frustrating. I will say the lighting is great and it's a very beautiful fan to look at but other than that, it is useless. It does not cool off a room at all.

Spent an hour putting this fan up only to take it back down and return it plus another to store. The first speed was probably 10 RPM's, the second speed was slower and the third speed was takeoff mode. Have always sworn by Hunter fans but the quality of these were very disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed Had the fan , for less than 1 year , .1. doesn't have much power on high. 2. Had all the fans off while on vacation this one didn't work apon return sounded like its motor was dying when we switched it back on.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great except to the bulbs I purchased 3 of these fans to upgrade existing fans. The fan looks and works great! The one drawback is the lighting. These fans still use the old incandescent candelabra light bulbs, of which only three of the nine worked (3 bulbs per fan) after installation. I contacted the manufacturer (not Home Depot) and was given two replacement bulbs by mail. When installed none of the new replacement bulbs worked and I disregarded contacting the manufacturer for the remaining bulbs. I upgraded the bulbs to some new LED bulbs sold at Home Depot. Additional cost of about $19.00 per fan. Not very economical in my opinion. If I had to do it over again I would pass.

I've installed my share of ceiling fans over the years but this was the first one that had rubber grommets on the blades. I had to use a pocket screwdriver to get the grommet through the hole. Then I had to fiddle with the other side to get it to seat properly. Took about 30 seconds each to install. Also, the screws that mount the blade to the bracket are exactly the right length, make sure you tighten the screw until it bottoms out on the bracket. There are 2 long 8-32 screws that hold the motor in place, make sure you use both of them or you'll have problems mounting the blades, the motor will dislodge it's self when you install the first blade (learned that the hard way).
