Questions & Answers

How do you open the package and free the straps?

I partially freed the straps but cannot open bottom compartment to get them out.
Asked by: KathrynS
Look real good at the packaging. There is some little holders that, if I remember right, you clip the little pieces on the back with wire cutters and they will fall right out. Hope this helps. I already threw away the packaging a month ago, so I am going off memory!

how long is the short end that has the ratchet attached? I need to wrap it around my roof rack bar & attach it back on itself and still be able to use the ratchet.
Asked by: DIYBL
I use it on a roof rack on my truck all the time - the short end is about a foot and a 1/2 long which should be fine for most racks. But generally all you need to worry about is getting the ratchet in the right place when you put them on the rack so you can tighten and loosen them.

HI, I purchased the straps about 2 months ago. One of the straps has "ripped" and Im sure the load was within specs. What can I do now? Can you replace it? I dont think I have the reciept anymore.
Asked by: fl5185
Hopefully you bought the straps with a Home Depot card. If so, they have a record of your purchase and should be able to help you with a refund/replacement. Something to consider. . . You didn't keep the slack in your strap out slapping around in the wind while driving to and from? If so, the strap will wear prematurely. It's best to take up the slack and keep it inside your car.

Can I use this as a strut spring compressor?

Can I use this as a strut spring compressor?
Asked by: Elvis
I personally would not use these as a strut spring compressor. Mostly because strut springs can be very dangerous should the strap be overloaded and snap. That is why most strut spring compressors are threaded steel shafts with clamping devices to ensure the spring cannot expand uncontrolled.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strong handy tie downs for all sorts of things I love these tie downs for all sorts of uses. These have a nice plastic coated crank handle which makes it much more comfortable tightening them down. They also are coated to help keep rust from coming on after many years of use. I use them very often for attaching longer boards or items to the racks on my truck like long 2X4s or plywood. They are strong and can be depended on for those type loads. I have also used them for carrying our canoe on the top of the car or truck. They are so strong that you do need to be careful to not damage the item you are tying down. They are a nice length for most applications too - not too short.

Bought these on a whim because spending $10 on a set of ratchet straps beats hundreds of dollars for a car top carrier! I used them to tie down a couple of hard plastic storage containers, loaded with camping gear, to my SUV's rooftop racks (the plastic containers had inlets for ratchet straps). I've also used them to tie down wood pallets, aluminum ladder, and big pine slabs for the fire pit, and extra kayak, In short, these straps are getting a lot of use and work great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality, price, ease of use I had no option today but to transport a mattress and box spring on the roof of my SUV. Thinking of the ridiculous looking people with mattresses half blowing off their roofs, arms out the window hanging on for dear life, I needed a better plan. I picked these up first and used 2 of them to secure the mattress and box spring to the roof rack. I'm telling you, quick and easy. And nothing moved an inch. 50mph, 30 minute drive, didn't move an inch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Takes jaws of life to get them out! I realize everything is packaged to prevent stealing from store but these things require 'jaws of life' to get them out of the package. I wouldnt recommend them or buy them again based solely on anti consumer packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid feel I have used the tie down straps a few times and have been very happy with them. The ratcheting mechanism feels really solid and the nylon straps are well made. I have used other tie downs and by far these seem to be the best ones yet. I would recommend them to any one on the fence with these.

Great for increasing leverage as well as safety when using a hand truck to move bulky items. It's well worth having in your tool kit. One negative: the handy carrying and storage case might as well have been designed by the same company that makes Rubik's Cube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the job I bought these to hold down my kayaks on a roof rack and have used them about six or seven times. They are durable and easy to use.
