how long is the power cord

I am surprised it is not listed anywhere....it is important
Asked by: corvettegreg
11 feet. After researching portable 12 volt air compressors I read and learned a few things about cord lengths and power delivery to the compressor. The more expensive high amp high capacity 35 to 50 amp compressors only have 2 to 6 foot power cords because apparently the power of DC current drops rapidly with distance especially with undersized wires used by many cheap units. Instead of longer wires, longer air hoses are used to get the air from the compressor to where it needs to go. One comment needs to be said about the power output to the compressor from a running engine or an engine that is shut down. A running engine alternator out put is 13 to 13.5 volts which is much higher voltage that the 11.5 to 12 volts delivered to the compressor from the battery of a shut off car. Running the engine will speed up the compressor causing it to pump faster especially as the pressure goes up. Some automobiles only have 10 amp lighter sockets which explains why the high capacity units have alligator clips that attach directly to the battery for their power. This does not work for all cars. For example Buick LeSabres, Volvos and other car makes put the battery under the back seat or under the inside floor. These have to be removed to obtain access to the battery. If you don't want to do that you are left with only the cigarette lighter socket power option. If so, make sure the lighter socket amperage matches the amperage your compressor needs or your new compressor will blow a fuse and not run at all.

How long does it take to inflate a standard car spare tire?

Asked by: matt
It inflates my Lincoln Town car tire from 20 pounds to 35 in about 2 mins (those are BIG for car tires) just as an example. It runs faster if the vehicle is running as opposed to shut off.

We were driving south trying to skirt winter storm Decima. Decima caught us briefly in southern Colorado. The temperature had dropped to -9 degrees when my low tire warning light came on. I'm supposed to keep between 30 to 34 psi in my tires. The reading said 26 psi. There were no gas station air hoses operational after two stops. Then I remembered I had the Husky 12-volt inflator in my trunk. I bought it in a Home Depot thinking some day I might need it. The snow was 6 inches deep in the place I stopped to use my Husky. I hooked it up to the tire, plugged it into the lighter socket and jumped back into the car. It was literally freezing cold and I didn't know if the little Husky would survive the snow and the bitter sub zero cold. Two minutes later the gauge inside my Escalade said the tire now had 34 psi. The Husky worked perfectly! I returned home and bought four more Husky inflators as Christmas gifts for family and friends. This product doesn't need an AC cord (no outlets were available on that cold highway). The 12-volt cord is long enough to reach all four tires. I recommend the Husky. It even comes with a built in pressure gauge. Great product.

I recommend it because it works, you should have one with you. I gave it 3 stars because that's average, and that's what this pump is. my last one was $60 and was no better then this one...it's an average tire pump that cost less.

The lever is plastic and shoddily constructed. Air hose will not remain attached to anything with a broken lever. Home Depot refused to replace broken part without charging me. This is a poorly manufactured item.

Tires on a full size pick up were low from the cold winter. Filled about 6 psi each with no issues. Very quiet and does not bounce around like a lot of models. Gauge is accurate when compared with my manual tire pressure gauge. Also inflated a couple kids toys so they are ready when the warm weather returns. Wish the run time was a little longer before required cool down. If inflating a pool raft or air mattress it might take longer than the allowed time. Haven't tried it so I don't know.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the investment Before buying this I was worried about the connector being made of plastic. But I ended up buying it anyways and could not be any more impressed. Prior to this unit I had gone through 2 other air compressors by other makers (those 2 failed rather quickly within a short time frame) and this Husky unit was significantly better overall, regardless of the plastic connector. I ended up buying 2 more for emergency vehicle placement for my family. Very happy with it so far (I've had it for a little over a month at the time of this review).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Liked this inflator so much I bought one for each car In my area there are so many road hazards I'm usually repairing or replacing a tire every six months. This inflator and road hazard insurance for every tire have saved me a lot of time and money. I bought one of these and liked it so much I went back to Home Depot and bought one for each car. It's small, compact, powerful, and comes with a nylon bag for the trunk. The gauge is accurate enough for curb side leak recovery and the occasional pressure adjustments. The power cable is long enough for the inflator to reach front and back tires on a large SUV. Inflation is really quick and best done with the engine running. This inflator doesn't have a battery which is perfect. Ive used the rechargeable inflators before and don't like them because they are heavy and keeping them charged is a real pain. I think the Husky 12V Inflator is a great product.
