Product Overview

The 12 in. Husky Groove Joint Pliers also known as tongue and groove pliers are often used for gripping irregularly shaped objects. They can also be used for clamping materials. They are also commonly used for turning and holding nuts and bolts. An advantage to this design of pliers is that it can adjust to a number of sizes without the distance in the handle growing wider. These pliers generally have long handles for increased leverage.

  • Smoothly adjusts between jaw positions
  • Low profile joint rivet for longer life
  • Heat treated design for increased durability
  • Comfort grip handles for non-slip usage
  • Precision cut teeth for extra gripping power

The specs claim a 4 inch jaw size. is that correct? most 12 inch tongue and groove go up to 2 1/4 inches and the 16 inch versions go to 4 to 4 1/2 inches. Does this 12 inch version really go to 4 inches??? I am looking to use it for plumbing, including a toilet spud nut which is 2 1/2 inches.

I checked the jaw opening on the 878555 model that I have, and the jaws will indeed open to four inches, however the lower jaw is extended at such an angle that it would be difficult or near-impossible to exert effective force on a fastener.
With the jaws parallel at the largest setting, I am measuring 2 & 3/8". I think they will handle a 2 1/2 inch nut easily. Thanks, Erik Wells

12 in. Groove Joint Pliers is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pliers great price. Very strong and comfortable pliers. Pipe never slipped and had plenty of adjustments for various sizes of pipes. Even cleaned up the end of a pipe and flared another with the head and handle tips

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "If you can get them on, they can get it off!" These pliers work great when nothing else will bite. The jaws and teeth are solid, heavy-duty, cut well so they dig in and really grab the work. I have owned several pairs of 12" channel lock-style pliers over the years. These Huskies rate highly among the group. The metal is good quality, nicely finished, well-designed for hand feel and strength. Not bad at all for the money, a fine addition to any tool box. Every homeowner, mechanic, plumber and DIY'er should have a pair of these Husky groove-locks. The smaller and larger size Husky groove-locks are also excellent. I keep a pair in or on every vehicle for road-side repairs and impromptu work away from home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and flexible tool I needed an expandable channel lock pliers for removing the drain from an old claw foot tub. Of course the drain had been in place for about 35 years with a large nut underneath. I picked this size and type of pliers based on it's expansion sizes and the durability of how it was constructed. It worked great on 2 tubs that I removed the drains and faucets for refinishing,.
