Answer:
I bought a Farm and they had a burn barrel and burned wood with nails and other metal it picked it up very well, so much had to release the magnet a few times because there was so much metal and you can adjust the height of the magnet depending on how close you need the magnet.

Answer:
When I bought this sweeper I also bought a 16-oz can of foam spray, that probably weighed a bit more including propellant and can. I set the box vertically on the ground and was about to put it into my car when it grabbed the spray can and, all by itself, held the can to the side of the box against gravity. Through the side of the box and packaging, the magnet supported more than a pound.

Answer:
I haven't measured it, but it seems that it can lift significantly more than its own weight. After tearing down an old garage and using the product, I have had NO flat tires It seems to have found EVERY loose nail, screw, bracket, etc. Here's a picture of the load after one pass. It also found a lot of single items unexpected in other parts of the yard or driveway as well as the heavy stuff.

Does it pick up roofing nails?

This question is from 18 in. Magnetic Sweeper Pickup Tool
July 31, 2016
Prior owners had a new roof put on the house and roofing company must not have been too careful. I'm finding old rusting roofing nails every day I'm in the yard. Need to figure out a way to pick most of them up. Thanks!

Answer:
Yes it will. If you pick up the base unit by lifting the handle, the internal magnet slides to the top of the base and releases any metal from the bottom. It works really well.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 24 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 18 in magnetic sweeper Just what is needed to keep nails, screws and metal cleaned up. Buy one. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product. Excellent product. Very well made, heavy construction, very strong magnet. Feature which allows release of picked up objects, without raking them off by hand, is wonderful. Highly recommended. July 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does a fair job but requires several trips to pick up If you have a lot of nails! The magnet is easy to use and picked up nails and staples left when the roofers tore the roof off! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works good We use it to pick up nails and other small metal objects in our parking lot. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Strong Super Sweeper Succeeds Spectacularly Sorry ‘bout the title; I just couldn’t help myself with the alliteration. This Husky sweeper is (almost) top shelf. I compared it (on the web and in the store) to a smaller Black and Silver Magnetic Clean Sweep. For the $5 difference in price I bought the Husky. I couldn’t see the value in the Clean Sweep compared to the Husky. I just had my roof replaced. The roofers removed the old (1997) roof and nails, and many of the staples from the original (1978) two-layered roof. They forgot to bring tarps, so all the old hardware, broken shingles, and shredded felt was scattered all across my lawn and alongside the carport and driveway where I park my motor home and car. (My wife uses the carport.) The workers used a non-wheeled magnet three times to pick up nails, but I was still seeing some that they missed. I was at first reluctant to buy such a big device because I expect I’ll never use it again, and in my small house I have no place to store it. But I can’t afford a blowout on the interstate with my motor home, so I bought the Husky. I am so glad I did. Assembly was easy. I spent two hours using it yesterday, working around only half the house with multiple sweeps, and I must have picked up between 250 and 300 nails and staples, plus bolts and other very rusted debris, probably from when the house was first built. The Husky is very good, but not perfect. As mentioned elsewhere, the wingnut doesn’t secure the handle as securely as it should, and the magnet-lifting operation to release the nails could be smoother as the two bolt sleeves sometimes rub on the sides of the sleeve holes if you push the magnet back down crookedly. But it has a strong magnet and it WORKS! Multiple runs are necessary, as they would be with any such sweeper. Keep sweeping until you pick nothing up. (Tires are expensive, and buying one is work, not fun.) But this magnet is so strong it finds things completely buried under the sand. Sometimes high grass sweeps nails off the sweeper, but the height is adjustable, and sometimes the grass just pushes the nail around the corner from the bottom of the magnet to the back. So I always stop when I hear a lot of clatter and release the nails (and I sometimes use a gloved hand to ensure all staples, wires, and metallic blobs that are rusted remnants of decades gone by is off). I was going to try to resell this sweeper when I’m done with this job, but I’m keeping it. I’ll use it again the next time I drop a screw or bolt into the lawn. (I’ll throw something else out to find a place to store it.) I rate this Husky a four and a half for design and construction, but a six for how happy I am with its operation. And I couldn’t believe it was only $30. So I’m back to sweeping; only 200 nails to go. August 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sweeper is easy to use This magnetic sweeper is okay but does not pick up all the nails and screws in one sweep It took four sweeps and I still pray that I have found them all July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value. did the job, easy to assemble. not sure if it will last a long time. may need to add a strap to fortify the handle to magnet connection. good value for the $$. a lot cheaper than flat tires. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works great! This is really easy to use. The height is adjustable and it IS necessary to adjust it for proper pick up. It has to be set higher on rough ground so it doesn't drag and scrape the metal off after pick up. On smoother surfaces, it can be set lower and will then pick up even small metal like dropped staples. If there are heavy pieces, or a large accumulation of small pieces, it can be hard to release the collected metal. I solved this by spanning a collection box such that I could actually press down a little to push the metal away from the magnet. After tearing down an old, rickety, garage I collected several large buckets of nails, screws, brackets, etc. from the surrounding driveway and lawn. I sold them to a metal recycler for a few dollars - not enough to get rich, but it helped offset the cost and was certainly better and cheaper than a flat tire on the car! May 3, 2016
