Answer:Ā
Yes, they are LR41 button batteries and the tool takes three of them. They are provided with the tool and already installed. See attached picture showing the top disassembled. It just screws apart for easy access.

You didn't fully expound upon intent to do what, but I think it would depend upon a totality of the circumstances. That is what my law school professor for criminal law used to say.

24 in. Lighted Mechanical Pickup Tool is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OK, this is truly a great thing. I had doubts looking at the picture, but it is really terrific. First, I was afraid, seeing the flexibility of the tool in the picture that it would not be stiff enough to push, and would cave in when meeting an obstacle. This tool is very strong in that regard. You can push it along a carpet, and it does not bend so it is almost as rigid as a solid shaft. That said, when you NEED it to bend around a piece of furniture, it will. So, no worries on that account. The light is great. Now, I saw other posters here complain that the light broke. I have used it now for one month only, so I cant say about that, but so far, with daily use, I have not broken it. I am very respectful of tools like this, I don't ram and jam them, and based on what I have seen so far, this is a keeper. The light feature is a great thing for me, because under desks, and whatnot it is dark, and most cables are black. I cant say as I have used it as a remote flashlight... its not that powerful, but it DOES illuminate the bit you are trying to pick up, to get a proper angle for the deployment of the pincer parts. On another note, it picks up VERY SMALL pieces as well. I dropped a cheerio under the desk, and it broke into three pieces. It picked them all up, one by one, perfectly. The strength of the pincers is also terrific, and can pick up pretty heavy stuff too. All in all. I am thrilled with my purchase... even more so because I gambled...I was not sure.... and it turned out great. I wanted to post here, in case someone else was reticent about purchasing thinking it might be "wishy-washy". It's not!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential and Ingenious Tool for the Workshop! As we all know, that last screw, nut, washer, or bolt for that new item you are assembling always happens to fall in the deepest, darkest corner of your workshop floor. This is the essential tool for retrieving that lost part! Before getting this tool, I had to go get a flashlight and use my old mechanical pick up tool. With one item in each hand, it was awkward! Now, I can use just one hand to reach thanks to the nice and bright self-actuating LED light in the tip of this device. It comes right on when you press the very comfortable plunger mechanism (see picture). The light runs on three LR41 button batteries (included), and as the picture shows, it is easy to replace the batteries. This tool is a must-have for everyone's workshop. I also have to highlight the manufacturer's "guaranteed forever" warranty. I highly recommend this 24 inch lighted mechanical gripping pick up tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Pickup Tool is a MUST HAVE for every toolbox! I don't like to leave home for work without this tool being in my work box. I'm clumsy! I drop all things, large and small. I can never seem to reach them when I drop the small nuts and bolts! This tool is absolutely clutch when it comes to picking them up. Usually everything is precariously out of reach! Haha. My work box has chambers that are too deep for my arms to reach the bottom. This mechanical pickup tool is even better because it has a super bright LED light! The light is turned on when the grabby plunger is depressed. The quality of the parts is professional grade. The outside materials are coated so that the metal won't succumb to the elements over time. Overall I am very pleased with this tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dropped items found All of us have dropped a screw, nut, washer and it has rolled under something. Get out the flashlight and the pickup. Can't line up the flashlight and get the claw on the item? End up pushing it further under whatever it rolled under. Now: put this under the something. Push the button slightly and the light goes on. Wave the lighted end with the other hand to see where what you have dropped is. Push the button harder and the claw opens to grab what you dropped. Easy and simple. I wanted to know how strong the claw was so I tried a piece of wood that would fit in the claw. Picked it up and held it securely. I also tried a "medium flat rate box" (USPS description of size). Picked it up an held it securely also.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clever tiny pincers This flexible wand makes it so much easier to pick up tiny dropped items from the workshop floor. What's great: the flexibility-rigidity of the wand. Not too whippy, not too floppy, but yet bendy enough to get around that cabinet edge that's in the way. Also really really like the light on the end. What's not so great: The jaws truly are tiny. Perfect for screws, nuts, bolts, things on that scale. I'm thinking, though, that it would be nice to have the same thing again, in a larger size, for the occasional dropped wrench.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very effective tool I've been missing I can now go around and get out all of those small hardware, bits, and toys that have fallen behind and under otherwise non mobile furniture and counters. A slight push of the button turns on the LED light (only on when pressed). Push a little harder and the grabber claw extends and opens. Release pressure for it to grab on with decent strength. The arm is flexible. They only potential negative I can find is that since the claws are thin they could tear a delicate item if it is wedged and requires some force to pull out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from See What You Pickup! For 40 years, I've used short, long and stout mechanical pickup tools, but never had the convenience of a lighted tip. This new tool rocks, with a bright LED at the tip that greatly assist my far reach needs. It activates as soon as I start to extend the prongs and really gets bright once they are fully open. No more having to use a separate flashlight, this all in one Does It All!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Pickup Tool This tool is manufactured by Husky in China. It consists of a 19 inch wire wound tubular spring that encases a 4 prong 3/4" max opening grip. Overall length is 24". Its tip is illuminated via a led light powered by 3 button cells that apparently uses some sort of Fiber Optic media in which to bring the light to the tip. This is a nice feature since it helps to locate the item in question to be picked. It does have size limitations but a suction cup reach extender can be used for larger items. It can pick up screws as small as a 2-56 (That's all that I had) to a bolt with a 3/4" head. It picked up paper such as an instruction sheet. It is not affected by magnetism and the light makes it very easy to illuminate the area while serching for the part. Every tool box should have one and because it has a light, it is just a bit more attractive that other pickup tools that are non-illuminated. And yes this tool is recommended.
