Iâve always wanted a tool chest, but was never able to spend the bucks for an expensive set. I happened to see this one at my local HD, and they had a pricing special, buy the base and the chest, get the middle chest free. Reading the other reviews, I saw that these seem to damage easily in transit, so I made sure the boxes I picked werenât damaged. (Some of the ones at the store were).
I wouldnât call this item heavy duty, and I wouldnât expect it to hold up to long term daily shop use by a professional. The gauge of steel isnât tremendously thick, and itâs just not in the same league as the pro sets that cost 2-3 times as much. However, for a DIYâer like me who is going to work in the garage a few times a month, this is perfect. It is economical, good looking, functional. The ball bearing drawers work great. Letâs face it, if those arenât good, that kinda ruins everything. Itâs easy to move around, although mine will stay put most of the time. As long as youâre not dropping heavy things in the drawers and slamming it around, I see no reason why it wonât last for decades.
Iâm glad I found it for the price I did, itâs a great option. What surprised me the most was once I got it together and started putting my tools in it, I still had several empty drawers. Time to get more tools!

Bought this over a year ago at my local HD, loved it so much that I bought a matching lower cabinet the next day. I've been using it daily, each drawer has been open and shut at least 1000 times, some 3000 times. I'm an OCD DIY'r so I take great care of my tools and don't abuse or misuse them. Both boxes have been stationary so I cannot attest to its portability. I can speak for the locking mechanism, drawers, steel, paint, and overall satisfaction of purchase. This box is made in the USA, drawer slides are made in Taiwan (that's a good thing in my book), and was made by Waterloo who also makes boxes for other big box retailers. I compared these to cr@f+$m@n boxes that were priced higher and of the same quality. Sometimes the drawers would open with one side having more resistance at the point of full extension but was remedied with a bearing/drawer slide lubricant. All drawers also perform better in general when re-greased every so often depending on usage. The lock has given me no problems and looks to be easily fixed if something goes wrong in the future. I waxed the entire box with carnauba wax and it still looks new today. Sometimes grease or fingerprints get all over a drawer but are easily wiped away in one stroke with a rag. The steel is probably a thinner gauge than other more expensive boxes but I haven't felt the need for something thicker in my usage. I chose this box over the 4 drawer because of the gas struts, and low price for adding an extra drawer. For $100, this box is a steal, I got mine for $80 during a sale.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Mark Horrible design? Horrible quality control?
I was completely disappointed in this item. Even from the start it looked like the drawers did not align well. When closing the lid to 'lock' the drawers, two would still open. Once you put tools in the drawers and added weight, more problems showed up. Some of the drawers would no longer latch when closed, and therefore if there was a slight lean forward would roll open, The top lid will not close completely, probably because of problems in the latching mechanism.
Where the problem is, I'm not quite certain. It may be misalignment in the construction, thus a quality control problem. But it also might be in the design. While being steel, they steel is very thin and the drawers felt weak and easily able to bend out of shape.

Fits snug to the bottom cabinet. I secured with sheet metal screws. Wide drawers hold lots and with the drawer liners, nice and quiet. Drawers are smooth operation and stay shut during rolling the chest. Shipped with no damage to this piece and on time. Lid assist shocks work evenly and hold lid up and out of the way. I did remove the locking bar that actuates the drawer locks due to wanting to open drawers without raising the lid first. I can still lock the lid. Just what I needed. I would buy again.
