This 2-drawer Ball Bearing Intermediate Chest is the perfect solution. It can be used with Husky chests and cabinets or as a standalone on top of a workbench. All welded steel construction provides strength and long-lasting durability.

Sure. I cut a 1/4'' thick piece of scrap board to fit the top between the outer lips. As long as you have some weight to the box going on top of this one you're fine.

the width inside bottom & outside top is 26 1/8, so it will be a tight fit if it does work, you can always use some plywood as a spacer.

nope, you can put one on top of bottom chest, or workbench, then one 26" top box on top of it, they have a top lip to hold the top box in place, that is why you cannot stack them.

no, they go on top of a bottom chest, and a top chest goes on the top of them, that is why they are called intermediate boxes, they have a top lip to hold the box in place that goes on top of them, so you can't stack another on top of it.

This unit is not made to be stacked on top of each other. There is a lip around 3 edges that is meant to accommodate a slightly smaller top chest. Another mid chest would not sit flat on top of another.

Yes it is ok, but it obviously won't fit snug. You will have about 1.5" on each side and top chest will be able to move around unless secured in some fashion.

I did not purchase the chest as an addition to my tool box bur for an entirely different reason. I think outside the box and utilize things in ways they are not originally intended. The problem I had was that I was hoping that the drawers were deeper. In the description, the drawer depth was not given and therefore I was unsure before purchase. I am still using it but had to adapt my use to the chest's dimensions.

It was on sale (2 Jacksons), and the least expensive 27 inch 2 drawer intermediate chest I found anywhere (price was of paramount importance). The quality was good: metal was an "HD enough" gauge, the ball bearing drawers work fine, and it fit the Husky 5 drawer bottom chest (a Craigslist "find") and the Masterhand 10 drawer top chest (purchased on sale many years ago at Tractor Supply) just fine (so I assume it would work with any two std. 27 inch sized chests). I filled one drawer with screw-drivers sets, and the other with allen-type driver sets ...I mainly wanted more organization room so I wasn't digging so much to find tools ...so not a lot of weight; I'm sure the drawers could have handled much more. More than merely "satisfactory quality" for the home mechanic, and IMHO at the quite nice level even at the regular price. (There were some rubber stand-offs which I didn't see the point of using, so I'd say "no assembly required".)
