Can the handle be installed on the left side?

Asked by: wrf1234
It doesn't have an alloweance to have the handle on the other side. You'd have to drill it out and use bolts and nuts.

Can this be used without castors?

If we want to use inside a closet, not for tools. Looking to reduce height - but not sure if will scratch floor/be uneven without castors...
Asked by: Nicole
It sits fine without casters. I used three of them without casters as a base for my workbench. I just sat them on a couple of 2x4s to raise them up a little. You'll probably want to put something under them if you're concerned with scratching the floor.

I've had it now for about a month and I finally loaded it with all of my tools that are scattered everywhere. In addition to a top, this unit was able to store the bulk of my tool collection. I am very happy with it. The handle on the side is great for moving it around. See pictures attached for more details of my setup (still a bit messy, but i foresee my tool organization to be a constant work in progress).

I bought this yesterday at the local Home Depot store already fully assembled (they had about 5 or so of this same model ready to wheel out the door). I also bought the wood top, which fit perfectly and will stay in place because of the way the cabinet is designed, and the shelf liners (also made by Husky) to keep my tools from moving around when opening and closing the drawers. The unit is very well built and quite sturdy.

I bought several of these for my home garage workshop, using three of them as drawers under my bench and the others for general tool storage. Good boxes for the money, look good and the drawers move nicely. I like them better than the craftsman versions. Just make sure you check the product at the store - they get banged around in shipping and one of mine was dented but the store made good on the replacement. Like any toolbox, I suggest getting the drawer liners.

It arrived slightly dented on the top back lip, but since I was putting a matching top tool chest on it, I just banged out the lip with a hammer. I think that the packaging needs to improve as most of the display models I saw at multiple HDs also had dents. The ball-bearing drawer slides glide smoothly. Overall, a good value for the money, but don't confuse this for a $400.-$500 professional tool chest..

After buying the 36" Husky top and bottom for tool storage in my garage, I noticed the floor on my 36" stack was flexing due to the weight. I reinforced the bottom with 1-1/2" angle iron (see the videos online). By bracing the casters front to back, which took all the flex out of the loaded cabinet. I was assuming these smaller boxes might have need the same reinforcement, but when I took the first two home (which will be used for closet organizer instead of using a dresser) the two cabinets fit neatly below my closet shelf, and with the side handle removed, makes good use of the space. In the future, I can use them of other purposes, or resell them if I don't need them anymore. Try that with a dresser. Back to my findings, the front casters are mounted at the front edge, which is the right location to keep the center of gravity as far away from the center as possible. I had to redrill the mounting location on my 36" unit, but this was not required on the 27" unit. The main support channel on the inside (the piece that all the slides attach to) run the full length down to the floor (again, unlike the 36" unit that had a 1-1/2" gap). I found that additional reinforcement modification of the floor unnecessary at this time. I liked the value so much, that I went back to the store, and picked up a 3rd unit. The 3rd unit is in my music room, and holds my 26" top chest (different brand), with my guitar pedals and other misc stuff. The wrench they give you....throw it in the garbage, or glue it to the fridge.....it's worthless as a tool. The first 2 boxes, I purchased off the floor.....and I picked the two cabinets that had the least amount of customer finger f-ing. I also choose two units that had the same key code. I went to another store to get my 3rd cabinet, and they had most in the boxes......so, I was not able to pick my key code (which is different). Upon unboxing inside my SUV, I removed each drawer and the box with the casters. Each large drawer weights about 8 lbs. So with all the drawers out (about 30 lbs) plus the casters and handle, I was able to pick up the empty cabinet out of the back of my SUV without any help, and move it upstairs into my music room. It's just at the size where if any larger, I wouldn't want to move it around without a 2nd person. There were NO dents...but I did find a couple minor flaws in the finish towards the side where they touched it up at the factory. Turning the unit upside down, and using a 12 mm offset Snap-On box wrench, I got the casters tightened up. The instructions say "Do not over tighten"....I suggest, tighten them up as you would a typical bolt of this size. Since the nuts are well nuts which are "Rivet Nuts", or "Nut-Serts" Nut inserts, they do need to have the crush on the collar. You will feel the squeeze come up when you get to this point, as it will start to hold the tension. My guess, in the 25~ft lb range, will do the trick. Since all 3 of these boxes will serve indoor duty, I now wish I bought all 3 in the boxes....since the casters would not have the scuffs from rolling around inside the store, and out into the parking lot. My key choices, would have been a shot in the dark. I am happy to see, the unit appers stout enough for my intended purposes. If I were to utilize it in my garage with a bunch of metal tools, I'd probably add the angle iron brace anyway (but only 2 pieces, instead of the 4 pieces I installed in my 36" stack, again, due to the side support having the space in the 36", but the channel going all the way down in the 27".) I've owned Snap-On (one of the best in the industry, and also one of the most expensive), and other mid-level and lower priced cabinets. This unit, for $119.00, is the best bang for your buck. It is built well. It's not a $500...or $1500 cabinet, so don't expect it to be one of those, but do expect it to offer more than the $119.00 price!~
