I was able to assemble this by myself, but it would have gone faster with a second person to help. The shelf supports key into the uprights and get tapped down with a rubber mallet.
The shelf is well made and should last forever. At least the warranty is "forever".
The ends of some of the shelf supports were slightly bent. I couldn't tell if this was deliberate to make a tighter fit with the uprights, but some of the supports required a little finagling to get lined up and locked in.
One neat thing is that the shelf supports can be attached in two ways. There's either a 1" lip above the shelf or, flipped over, they're flush with the shelf. I took advantage of this feature to attach the side and back supports with the lip up so items couldn't be pushed off the back of the shelf and with the front support flush with the shelf so items would slide on and off.
The shelves are a heavy wire grid of 2" x 4" squares - large enough to discourage placing smaller items on the shelves. There are also cross wires running the short dimension of the shelf on both the top and bottom of the shelf, making an irregular top surface that inhibits the ability to slide items sideways on the shelf. I cut up the box the shelf came in to make a cardboard shelf liner for one of the shelves.

Both this model and the other Huskey 48in wide all-metal shelves are fantastic. Contrary to other reviews, I was able to assemble this myself without a second person, but I did use a step ladder for reaching the top. Also you don't need to buy a rubber mallet if you do not already have one, you can use a piece of wood like a piece of a 2x4 and a hammer to tap the pieces in to place.
I picked this model for several reasons- one it is very sturdy, easy to assemble (no screws, bolts, etc.), and I wanted the all metal shelves vs. plywood because I am storing a lot of boat equipment in the garage and it is wet usually, so the air circulation of the open shelves is good.
As others have said it is a very configurable unit. Not only can you choose the shelf spacing, but the edges of each shelf you can choose to flip the metal pieces up or down to make the shelf "flush" or act as a "tray". I made the top one a tray to keep things from sliding off, the rest are flush. I like the one idea another owner posted here previously, he made the back rise above the shelf like a half tray, but the front of the shelf he made flush so he can slide things all the way back without items falling over.
The one trick, and this was totally my fault the directions are clear, make sure for the 4 posts that hold the shelves, the large holes are above the small holes so when you press the support beams in they slide down and lock in properly. This will make sense when you see it :) I didn't check that when I put the upper shelves together, I had to break down and re-assemble the upper posts but not big deal. And if you don't like the shelf spacing when you assemble it, it is very easy to move shelves around.
And did I mention this is a very solid unit? It states a weight capacity of about 1000 pounds per shelf- I have nothing approaching that, but I pressed really hard on some of the shelves, the open metal rack design did not budge at all! Very impressed. I may buy a second unit later as I complete my garage project :)

Rated 4 out of 5Â by HDKevin Strong frame, finish and shelf
Very heavy and solid shelving unit. It assembles just like any other steel shelving unit and usually requires two people for assembly. The finish is solid on the frame. The shelves are chrome plated and hold a lot of weight. I like the wire shelves for two reasons: they do not collect water and warp or disintegrate like common MDF boards and they allow for ventilation underneath the items. The long 60 inch span does not flex or sag

Taking about 30-45 minutes to assemble, this product is awesome. Can't believe we took two years before finally buying some shelving units for our garage (which now is actually a "two" car garage). I appreciate the variability of the shelves, allowing for different heights and if you need a solid surface, you could through a piece of plywood which is awesome, though I personally don't need it (a friend has said that's what she would do). We've already purchased two and will likely buy at least one, if not two more for my house (and I'm trying to talk my dad into buying some for himself as well!).

I loved that I didn't have a bunch of screws and washers to keep track of!
