Customer Questions & Answers

can you add casters to the unit?

Asked by: gr07
The correct answer is NO. I added 4" industrial casters and, as others have noted the thin metal with holes in the feet is not up to the task. I had the shelves assembled with nothing on them and the metal failed and the shelves tipped. Maybe with sturdy platforms the answer would be different but learn from my mistake!

What is the shelving weight capicity?

For example is it 1000 pounds per shelf?
Asked by: Gerald
Just purchased 5 shelve units for a storage room. The units are good quality and assemble very easily. I've noticed the wire shelves need more support bars. There is only 1 support bar per wire shelve, which is fastened in the middle of the shelve. The outside edges of the wire shelve bend very easily if you put too much weight. I probably have about 100 to 200 lbs on the edges, with the weight evenly distributed on the entire shelve and the wire is bending badly on the edges. I'm going to check with Husky to see if they supply more support bars. If not, I'm going to have to use 2x4 pieces on every edge.

Can this item be disassembled for travel?

Asked by: LGLL
This unit can be dis-assembled but for what purpose? This is more of a permanent fixture and you would probably only want to take it apart if you were moving.

How large is the box it comes in?

I'm trying to figure whether or not I can bring this home from in my SUV or not.
Asked by: James
The box is very large and very heavy. I have a 2005 Lincoln Navigator (standard length) and the box only fit length-wise after moving the front passenger seat forward allllll the way. I could lift the box by myself - but I am a very large man with heavy lifting abilities. I would recommend having an assistant no matter what.

The best part is that you can connect the shelves together. The problem I have found is that when you start connecting shelves together they leave you with extra legs. I have talked to multiple HD people trying to find replacement shelves so that I can use the extra legs, and not one could help me they all tell me to contact the manufacture. After lots of research and reading I finally found the shelve. To help you all out here is the Link to the HD Shelve so that the Husky Legs don't go to wast. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Welded-Steel-Rack-and-1-Wire-Shelf-Add-On-Kit-ERZ7824W-1/206502885

Had to remove from my truck one piece at a time due to the weight of the cartons. No issues. Didn't need any tools although installing the bolts that hold the center shelf cross brace supports took longer than assembling the rest of the units. No clearance to drop bolt into mounting hole. Had to fish it around blindly until it hit the hole. Should have attached tape to bolt head to fish it into place. Created three bays by installing three shelves in the RH and LH units and two shelves in the middle between them. Very sturdy.

I would recommend this product with conditions. it assembles fairly easy, however one must be Very careful to assure that the dual clips are completely engaged before hammering into place. As with anything adjustable extreme care must be used otherwise the unit will not assemble plumb, level and square. also it easily gets out of square if moved. Otherwise the unit appears to be strong and well made. I used 1/2 inch plywood over the metal screens to store small items. I would also urge using bolts instead of the plastic clips provided.

I bought one of these shortly after Christmas to help organize Christmas decorations in my garage. I liked it so well once I had it up that I went back and got another one. The unit is sturdy and I like the 24" depth of the shelves. That enabled me to turn my storage bins long-ways in able to fit 4 on each shelf. When I assembled the second one I spaced the shelves a little differently to maximize the space. For the first unit, I spaced them evenly which worked fine. Just a little tweak on the second one. The unit is huge and very heavy in the box. I needed help loading in the truck, but just unpacked it from there in the garage. Once assembled, it's tough to move, so I suggest assembling it close to where you will use it. The only difficulty in assembly was attaching the nuts and bolts for the bottom shelf brace. Fitting my hands in there was almost impossible, so my wife had to step in and help there. For the second unit, I attached the top and bottom shelf first and then turned the unit over and attached the braces before assembling the other shelves. That made things much easier. All in all, assembly was pretty easy. I have to say, I'm very pleased with these units. They look good, fit great in my space and hold a lot of "stuff".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from From a garage mess to a functioning workspace These shelves changed my life... well, at least my life in my garage. I ordered two shelving units to help organize my out-of-control garage. I knew they would be very heavy, so I ordered online and had them shipped to my home instead of buying them in the nearby store. The delivery crew unloaded and carted them into the garage for me, beyond my expectations. Assembly was easy (did it solo) and these shelves are so sturdy that I plied all my heavy tools on them without any concern. I even went back to the store and bought a number of hooks to install along the top shelf to hold my rakes, shovels, etc. Now my garage is ORGANIZED. I can find things again and actually function in this workspace. Well worth the cost.

I purchased this product to provide additional storage along the sides of my garage. I must say that I got higher quality than I expected. + VERY easy to assemble. from taking the box out of my truck to having a fully assembled unit took under an hour and I was able to do it by myself (other than unloading, the box is fairly heavy/large). + The unit is sturdy and stable, and only gets more-so as it's loaded. + The height lets it fit just under my garage door frame, so i'm not restricted on where I can place it (reduces me to about 18" usable space on the top shelf, but I *really* wanted the 24inch depth for the other shelves). + The unit can be expanded, home depot sells the uprights and shelves for husky/edsal separately. so you don't have to waste those couple inches of space having a double set of uprights next to one another. it's really an excellent design, reminiscent of warehouse type shelves scaled down to a size that's usable/functional in any garage.

I purchased two at the same time and one of the shelving units had quite a few bent pieces inside the box which were not repairable and had to be replaced. I would recommend that you open contents for product integrity before driving off with the shelving unit.

Easy to assemble, can expand to extra shelves by connecting two sets to one end piece. Hard to store anything with feet on it due to the wire mesh for the bottom of the shelve. Had to put plywood over a couple of the wire mesh shelves.
