How do I change the pliers from inner to outer rings? Only one of the two holes is threaded.

I unscrewed the thumb screw and tried to insert it into the second hole of the other half of the pliers. The thread was too big to slip into the second hole. It looks like the second hole should have internal threads, but it does not.

Answer:
both of the holes are threaded, on mine at least. start unscrewing the bolt until it's free...don't flip the 2nd piece just slide it half inch then screw in again, that is how you switch between inner/outer.

Mine was a little tight the first time, but it did work. If yours doesn't work take it back and ask for a replacement.

Hi gearhead1223,
If it's a class, you will probably need to be prepared for different transmissions to work on. Channellock offers a Snap Ring Plier that has interchangeable tips.

Customer Reviews

8 in. Snap Ring Pliers is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sufficient I was worried, when I read the negative reviews, that I might be making a mistake buying these. I decided to take a chance and I'm really glad I did. To be clear, I am only working on small appliances. Snap rings by nature are a little difficult to get to. These pliers did fit into the snap ring just fine with a little wiggling. Once they were properly placed there was no problem removing or replacing the snap ring. These snap ring pliers work for what they are made to do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Useless Pliers are hard to use. Angle of pins are wrong and they don't fit in ring holes. Poor buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WASTERISK OF MONEY Broke the first time I used them. Are not sturdy enough to handle the most basic of tasks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the job I had to rebuild a part of my Precor exercise equipment that was assembled with snap rings. The rings are quite small ... about half inch in diameter. This tool did the job exactly as I wanted it to do. There is no other way I know of removing and replacing snap rings.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Did not work for me The tips are too large for the holes on the snap rings on my lawn mower axle. Filed them down, but they won't hold. Should have exchanged them for the Channel Locks with smaller tips included.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worked perfectly on ball joints Used on ball joint snap ring for 2000 ford Taurus. I was concerned the tips would break off, but it did ok. Be sure to seat the snap ring lower in the tips.
