Is this air compressor approved for use in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts requires that any air tank operating at or above 50psig be stamped by the manufacturer with the ASME symbol and markings. MGL 522 7.0.
Asked by: JimP
It has the traditional metal plate with stamped certifications, including the ASME symbol. Mine had both ASME and CRN (Canadian) certification. There's also the required info about tank wall / head thickness, manufacturing date, etc. You should be able to see all this in the pic.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Knocks Mine came with a cracked flywheel. Home Depot got me another flywheel. After the installation the pump knocked. 30 dayrrturn was up. Got a customer service call from the manufacturer . Rude .... Talked down to me.. Sent out a serviceman, replaced the pump and it still knocks.. It's a joke.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but need to prep it This is a nice reliable Compressor. I recommend you disassemble every fitting before you start it up. My tank had welding shavings and some sort of plastic in it, and the check valve was clogged with metal shavings. I did not check all this before hooking it up and ended up blowing the pressure switch from what I assume was over working from the clogged check valve. After I cleaned it out and replaced the pressure switch it has been running very good. Also make sure you get a good electrician to hook it up, the manual does not go over the necessary voltage but the husky customer service was helpful in helping my electrician.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful, High Volume, High Demand, Continious Use Compressor This compressor would fit well within an industrial or commercial applications. I installed this for my home/shop use. I use many air tools for restoration purposes: sand/soda blasting; sanding; cleaning; cutting; to name a few. This compressor kept up well with the demand of those tools, and even allowed simultaneous use of multiple tools. With the ability of the compressor to provide continuous air pressure at all times, there was no air tool performance drop-offs due to loss of volume or pressure. This even held true when using a high-volume application such as sand blasting. This unit is very heavy. Make sure the shipping company has lift-gate delivery, or you can have this delivered to a site with a forklift. This compressor will need some additional items in order to safely use the tool. You will need an air pressure regulator, oil/water separator, filter assembly (for painting applications), and a manifold for multi-tool use. I used a properly rated safety switch to electrically energize the compressor. The air compressor was mounted to the concrete with 1/2x6" wedge anchors. I used galvanized pipe for the rigid air lines for distribution. Be sure to include a flex-line going from the compressor to the rigid piping lines. With the well built construction of the compressor, I have no doubt I will receive many years of trouble free operation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Air! This is a big compressor for a small shop / garage, but at 80 gallons it provides great capacity. I use it mostly for air tools, an air over hydraulic pump, and a large plasma cutter; but also all the little things like airing up tires. The tank is well made, and ASME certified. Noise level is about average for this type of compressor - not a bad thing, but if you use it in a small space like a garage, it can be noisy. However, with the large capacity, it's really nice because it doesn't run as often. I checked the air for oil, and it was very clean, which means that the piston seals well. I use a fairly small oil filter and a dessicant dryer, and the result is super clean and dry air. The pump, motor, switch and other mechanical parts seem to be very good quality. So far I've had no problems, no loose parts or any leaks. All in all, I like this compressor and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some serious air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great compressor Works great, hooked another 80 gallon tank to it, I have 3 airlines hooked up. I work on cars body and paint has no problem keeping up with sanding , my HLVP paint gun. I researched plenty of compressors before i chose this one . It has stood up so far to its standards. and at great price. i usually dont put in reviews but had to give the credit where its due.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great High Volume and PressuCompressor This is a massive compressor. It stands almost 6 feet tall and weighs in at about 480 pounds. The two cylinder pump has a high volume cylinder and a high pressure cylinder. One feeds the next, on this cast iron compressor head. It also has a massive cast iron flywheel and fan that’s driven by a 220 volt motor thru a single V belt. It's definitely one for high volume or high pressure needs. This compressor supplies all the air I need for any and all of my shop tools. From a small drill to a large 7" high speed grinder. Unless I am running a big grinder constantly there is now enough air to run more than one tool at a time. Since this compressor runs up to 175 PSI it has plenty of reserve pressure to quickly pump up 90 PSI truck tires. Smaller compressors have a hard time quickly filling anything high pressure since the pump cuts out in the 100 to 120 PSI range. This compressor is designed to supply air to a shop, it will need a shut off valve and all piping to distribute air to all areas of your shop. It's not shipped with any tools or hoses; it's just the compressor with a 3/4" outlet. Since this is a 220 volt compressor it will need its own circuit and wiring. I won't go into the specifics of how to wire this for obvious reasons but if you are comfortable wiring your new compressor its straight forward. If you have any doubts contact a qualified electrician. Since this is a tall and narrow compressor that’s top heavy it must be bolted to the floor. I used 4 - 5/16" x 2 1/2" lag bolts into lead molly's to mount it to my shops concrete floor. I hoped that this compressor would be quiet enough to talk over when it's running and it is. It makes the most noise then the compressor comes up to pressure and dumps pressure out of the compressor head. One note; this compressor will need to be run for a minimum of 20 minutes without building any pressure. Just free running to break in the cast iron compressor head.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not too durable Purchased this air compressor in April and not two months later it stopped working and had to get a new motor. Though it was still under warranty it was a hassle to make an appointment with the technician, order and wait for the part to come in, and then make another appointment to have it installed. Might have been able to return it to the store but it's very heavy and awkward. Probably wouldn't purchase this unit again due to the uncertainty of it's durability.
