Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by bwatl Used minimally and had to replace twice
Though the outward appearance is very nice, it is not a reliable product. The first one lasted maybe two months with very minor use before I had to replace it. The 2nd one was barely used and it broke as well (wouldn't hold the cord when pulled out). It nearly hit me in the face and it left 2 dents in the ceiling drywall because it retracted so fast after the mechanism wouldn't hold. It holds for about 20 seconds then self-retracts extremely fast.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Johnnyboy Used frequently for six years and still works perfect.
I bought this in 2009 for my shop. I've used it extensively for six years and all functions still work as they should. I'm always careful to not pull it to it's full extension and I don't let it snap back in on retraction but control it to keep the retraction slow. I frequently wipe the cord off as it retracts. With prudent use mine has lasted better than I expected. I would buy another one.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by jimmyjoe Weak. Spring broke, not reliable.
It worked okay for a while, but the spring broke after less than 2 years and won't retract the cord anymore. The mechanism is plastic and will not last no matter how careful you are with it.

Doesn't retract anymore and isn't serviceable. Wouldn't buy again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tom Very capable cord reel, highly recommended
Very robust cord reel for the price, I bought two of these to mount on moving carts to use as extendable power cords, cut off the original ends and swapped the male/female end orientation. I like that there is sufficient room in the reel for the cord even if the cord is all fed back in on one side of the return opening (we have some other reels that bunch up and won't take all the cord back without manually guiding the cord back and forth...) We liked these so much that we just bought 4 more to mount in other locations. The mounting bracket also provides easy mounting options, we have some wall mounted, table top mounted and ceiling mounted all using the included bracket.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by mic Solid reel and design, but fasteners are garbage
I like just about everything about this reel. Solid design, works great. Would give 5 stars if not for the garbage fasteners that they provide to install into the ceiling/wall which cost me time. Even with generous pilot holes, these things stripped so easily. Very brittle material, Had to use pliers to remove. If you buy this, make sure you buy your own fasteners to use in place of these. I luckily had just enough laying around so it wasn't a hassle

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by EvilBoudreaux Return spring broke
I've had this product installed it in my garage ceiling next to my garage door opener. A very handy location that results in a very frequent useage. i.e. every weekend. I've been using the reel for approximately 6-8 months and the return spring has broken. So instead of returning this product, I disassembled it to see if I could repair the return spring. It had broken off at the point of attachment to the center shaft. This appears to be a result of the cheap Chinese spring steel used in the coil. Other than that, the retractable cord reel has worked as expected. But, now I'll try to reassemble it and see if Home Depot will exchange it. Given my experience with the Chinese made tools now days, I'm tempted to just start buying all my tools from Harbor Freight as there is one on my way home from work. Because most all are made in china, if not the parts and steel are being made there. So I gave this a " I would recommend this product" because there isn't a better alternative choice of higher quality. I buy tools now with the expectation of them to break with a year with heavy use. Within 3 years with limited use.
