Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by oneydee A great place to start in building your home tool set
As another reviewer mentioned, the title of "tool set" is misleading as this is really mostly a socket set. Decent quality. Nothing that a professional would consider top-notch but the machining, fit and finish of the these is as good as many of the more expensive sets. The ratchets operate smoothly without binding or roughness and both the 3/8 and 1/4 drive handles are lockable.
Comes with all of the standard metric and SAE sizes so this should definitely get you up and working if you are just starting off building your tool set.
All-in-all a good value for the asking price. Wish they would have had something like this when I was just starting out (30 years ago) as I spent WAY more $$ and got fewer pieces overall.

My review today is for the Husky 99 piece Mechanics Tool Set.
This set is nicely designed for the Mechanic that needs a great ratchet and socket setup. It has 52 different sized sockets, ranging from Metric to Standard, or SAE, if you want to be specific. The screwdriver is a nice addition since I always need another one and never seem to have the right bit. The screwdriver comes with 10 bits as well as Standard and Metric allen keys.
The ratchets are quality. Great feel and weight. They move forward and reverse and also lock. I just used the small ratchet to take the bolts off an old toilet and the compact size did the job nicely!
The case is solid. Great hinges! Form pressed from high density plastic. The grooves that hold the pieces are intelligently designed to be snug and the repeated removal and insertion of the pieces don't seem to wear out the case.
Over all, this is a great set for the mechanic that needs ratchets and sockets. Not so much a generalized "Tool Kit" but more of a socket set.

small rachet had a faulty release system. tools could not be tested in-store because the box was tie-wrapped. exchanged the rachet for a new one and everything works ok. cost me a drive to the store though

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Desertheat1 Great tool set with carrying case! Nice, compact for a woman too---
This is a very nice quality set of tools. The ratchets have very nice push button locking your sockets on securely. The carrying case is a good heavy hard constructed material and has two very strong clasps that hold it closed. The ratchet handles are designed so they fit your hand comfortably too.(they aren't round like most ratchets) The set includes all the basic sockets, hex heads, and screwdriver w/attachments you would need to fix something around the house/garage/car,and all in one compact case makes it a PLUS! This is an especially nice set for a woman to have of her own,so she can fix things without having to hunt for tools all over the place!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by joelav22 Must have for the garage or the trunk
Let my start by saying I have an expansive collection of high quality tools and I use them often. They are locked away in a large chest and as such are confined to the garage. I needed a set that I can transport.
First I want to comment on the packaging. Everything fits in the molded case really well. Unlike other more expensive sets I have where things move around when you pick up the case, ALL of the tools stay put. I was also a nice suprise to find everything all in their respective place. Again, with the pricier options, the sockets come in bags and you have to put together a puzzle. The only thing I don't care for much is the amount of effort required to manipulate the latches. It feels like you are going to break them, but so far they have held up well.
In using this set, I find that I really like the design of the sockets. the wrench insert is cast separately from the actual socket head. While it's tough to quantify how much of a difference this makes, the socket does grip bolts a lot better. There is far less slippage than I am used to.
The socket wrenches are very good quality. The ratcheting action is very fine, allowing the wrench to be more effective in tight spaces. The 1/4" wrench has a very fine action which I like a lot. I am not a fan of the handle design though. I generally work with mechanics gloves and prefer a beefier handle.
Overall this is a terrific set that I would put on par with the big names for homeowner use.

finally my husband has a matched set of tools. for years he has collected one tool here and there. he was thrilled to receive this tool kit, which has everything he needs for around the house repairs. the kit comes very nicely packaged and everything stays in place when the tool box is opened. the pieces connect well to the handles and work just perfectly. he couldn't wait to use them, and was very happy with the results.
one note of caution would be: be careful as the tool box latches can pinch the fingers. we found that out, so a bit of care prevents those accidents.
