You can't go wrong with a good set of pass through sockets. These are very well made and should last a lifetime. If you've got a nut with a lot of bolt sticking through you're going to want these. They have a very sturdy and well designed ratcheting action - good stuff.

These are very handy to have in your toolbox. Sometimes the only thing that works.

Great idea! this is a tool set that I keep in my box now. Comes in handy in tight spots and when a bolt is longer than the socket I am using.I put my set in a dewalt case, fit like a charm. I hope there are bigger sizes to come.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nick Nice addition to my socket sets collection
Impulse buy seeing it on the Home Depot gift section; while I already have many multiples of sockets sets, this was unique in the pass through feature. I've got a GearWrench ratcheting box wrench set which would do basically the same, but for $20 it's worth having a backup for the type of uses it's needed for.
For heavy torque applications, I'd still prefer a 6 point socket, but this should work fine for all normal situations.
I use the holder it came in by saving the barbed retainer that secures the sockets in the original packaging; I first removed it by squeezing the barbs on the other end with pliers, and then you can use a utility knife to trim the back edge of the barb enough so that it won't lock in, but still be able to retain the sockets. Oddly enough, some of the sockets are very hard to remove, while others just fall out. It's not the plastic holders either, the sockets themselves have varying openings, though it seems fine on the ratchet itself.
When the black retainer is pushed back over the sockets, it'll hold them in place, but can be pulled out with just your fingers to get to the sockets. This allows the sockets to be all kept in order in the holder; it's always a big waste of time if you have a big jumble of sockets, searching for the correct size.
The extension can be stored back with the ratchet the same way it came; there, the case retains the wrench securely without any additional work.
Unless the package is kept hanging vertically, the screwdriver bit holders could come out if held upside down, but if it's hung on a wall, as long as the longer one of the three holders is on top, it'll stay in place.
I'll hang it on the wall of the garage, so I'll always know where to find it; the reason I collect so many socket sets is that I always leave them somewhere I don't remember. Figure if I buy enough sets, I'll always run across one- much like socks, though the ones I find always seem to be individual socks that don't match any of the others.. :)
The 72 click ratchet is nice, the 5 degrees per ratchet allows working in limited swing clearance. As long as the strength of the ratchet is up to the job, the finish and feel is excellent, especially at the price. While I haven't had to test their policy, having Home Depot's backing on the lifetime warranty should be a plus if there's ever a problem with it.
The sockets are retained on the wrench and extension on the female side with an internal circlip, I was wondering how it came off while looking at it in the store, not realizing they glued it on for theft reduction..
It's not as finesseful as push button releases, but it's reasonably easy to pull off, and it holds in place when needed.
The sizes from 10mm to 17mm don't skip any sizes, and the 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, and 3/4" sizes should cover most of the nuts and bolts that are encountered in normal use.
While I wouldn't do it, the 3/4" would fit a car's lug nuts, and in an emergency might be used for that- though it's out of the working range of a hand ratchet tool.
All in all an excellent deal for an unique all purpose socket set, worthy of actual use.

Even though I really like the way the shape inside the socket grabs whatever goes in it, preventing rounded nuts and hex headed bolts, whenever I need the through ratchet part of the design, the bolt is often too large in diameter to fit through the socket for the nut I'm trying to tighten onto it. The hole is the same size in all the sockets. Also I had to use two pairs of pliers to pull a Phillips bit from the plastic bit holder. This particular design of through ratchets is a bad buy in my opinion.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CarterB Durable, easy to change sockets; could replace your main set
The pass-through set is very helpful for those instances when a long bolt is present and you would rather not resort to a crescent wrench. The bolt simply passes right through the center of the socket bit and head of the handle allowing you to work around it.
The sockets can be changed very easily and the ratcheting function has a thumb flip control like others.
This set has become my main wrench set for every day use.

The universal thru-rachet saved my time when I put up a chain-link fence. Of course deep socket would do the same work, but there are situations when there is a need to get access to the bolt while turning the nut. For example when removing a shock absorber from my car I had to use a star bit to hold the middle part while using the through socket to loosen the nut. A closed end socket, no matter how deep it is, will not work in this case. The only thing I wish they had done is to offer a case for this set of tools, because the socket holder that came with the product really cannot hold the sockets securely..
