I've been debating over the last few years on purchasing a bagger...I just never wanted one. I have been mulching or using the side discharge but I've been getting tired of raking up the clumps and my hands need a break from the blisters. I decided to take my chances and purchase the bagger. If the unit was just going to be "ok", I was going to be "ok" with it too. I picked it up and got it home and within minutes it was on my 2042LS. I was very surprised at how well it performed. I have no issues with the product design or the way it collected the clipping. I am a lawn fanatic...so for all you skeptics out there...and based on some of the reviews, I was one of them...Go For It, I think you will be happy with it.

Everything works fine until it comes time to attach and detach the lower chute front latch to the tab hole at the base of the deck. There is no room to manuver in order to hook the latch into the flange hole on front of the mower deck. You either have to remove the wheel in order to have the room needed to attach it or secure it to another area on the deck and that becomes a real hassle when using the bagger. If I knew this in advance, I would have never purchase this item but I really do need a bagger.

I purchased the 42" collection system January 2011. I have had issues with it from the start. First, after 4 hrs of use, the cover assembly #539 11139, would not stay closed over the bags and my clippings were being blown into the yard. This was replaced under warranty. Second, after 9 hrs, I notice a small crack in the blower housing just next to the decal. After more hrs of use this tiny crack grows. Third, on my second season of use, around 20 hrs, my belt snapped #539 132347. Fourth, shortly after my belt was replaced, the upper idler pulley #539 919078 bushing was worn out completely and replaced. By this time the small crack in the blower housing had grown to over two inches and was blowing clippings directly in my face as I mowed. The warranty period was out and I was out of pocket on these repairs except the first incident with the cover assembly. I decided to install a metal plate on the blower housing. My initial plan was to place the plate inside of the blower assembly, but the ergonomics of the assembly and materials being used would not fit. I installed a metal plate on the outside top portion of the blower assembly covering the decal and extending the top so that clippings would no longer blow into my face. The housing #539 130344 is made with plastic that can not withstand debris being transferred through it at an extreme velocity. Small rocks, sand, sticks and what ever else the system sucks from the ground files away the plastic and creates a thin wall on the housing after a few uses and cracks will appear. Now, the crack has extended beyond the metal plate and has reached the hood latch #539 108088. There are clippings once again escaping the gaping hole in the blower assembly. The lower unit that attaches to the deck needs to be redesigned with more durable materials . With the price I paid for this unit, it should be made of titanium. Not happy.

Today I put this unit on my wonderfull new 42 inch mower and was very unimpressed. Putting this unit on the mower was not bad. But once I got mowing the grass was blowing out the back betweeb the bags and the top peice. By the time I was done my back and my mower was full of grass clippings. Also that red wheel thing did not turn so I kinda guessed when the bags were full. I don't really recommend this but what else are you going to use.:(

bought the 30 inch double bagger. to go with the ariens 30 inch lawn tractor. the first time I used the bagger it clogged up a lot . but than I found if you slow down it does just fine, a little hard to get in the deck slot. its ok to use once in a whole for leaves ,twigs, dead grass. left bag fills much faster than the right bag. but if you trim about 1 to 2 inches of plastic from the bottom of the tube as it enters the catcher area it will fill more even. but I will mulch most of the time.
